Scirocco R with performance mods - Yay or Nay?

what if its just a sensor that came loose that just needs to be plugged in, unless a diagnostic is done its silly to just walk away without actually knowing why the light is coming on

The dealership is not even bothered to check if a sensor is plugged in? They are TELLING the buyer it's like that because of the upgrades.
No farking way in hell I would ever touch that car.

While I do think the initial post is a bit long winded and the car doesn't actually have that much of a story the CEL is concerning as well as how it seems like a "good deal". With stage 2 software they would most definitely include something so the CEL doesn't come on for a decat. Sure it could be a sensor or something but who knows? The dealership changing the oil and saying the car is fine means absolutely nothing, they worked on it for 20 minutes... I wouldn't count on the warranty either, and having heard of a few dodgy sciroccos would avoid one that seems to have any kind of issue. Also saying the CEL comes on because of too much power either means they are lying (and possibly about other stuff) or they don't know what they are talking about (which is also quite likely).

what does it even mean that the light is on because of the upgrades, so what does the diagnostic say, it must give an error that can be interpreted and then rectified, thats how the engine light system works I think.

Explain that to the dealership trying to fling the car onto the OP. Not me /facepalm

The sales guy that I've been dealing with is an old guy, who has apparently been in car sales his whole life, but doesn't seem to know much about the car.

Way too many red flags in this deal.

Just let it go man. You will find a nice one at the right price that doesn't have issues.

More than likely the O2/Temp sensor that was part of the cat that is making the CEL come on.

Most people just leave the sensor there with the cat removal specifically to avoid this.

Like Sinbad said, a good remap should switch this off.

buy a stock one and do the mods yourself if you really want it faster

Why would one mod a Rocc R to stage 2, and then sell it on 27K km's? The previous owner knew there was something seriously wrong, and got out of it before something big breaks. My 2c.

Perhaps they couldnt afford the payments

Only if it was a Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991.

How's yours doing, still broken from when you reversed into that guy?

Honestly, I don't think I'd ever buy a performance car second hand - especially not with mods. The original owner bought it to drive the **** out of it, and probably has.

Not true. My Fiesta ST is stage 2, and I hardly ever drive it hard. But when I need the extra grunt, it's there. Also my fuel consumption is way better than stock.

You're one of only a handful, though. I'm referring to boy-racers.

Sales guy just called me to let me know someone else is looking at the car. Good luck to that guy :)
