The Buffalo Rally on a scooter? Now that sounds like a good way to incur ridicule.

No none of that at all. A couple of scooters attended the last time I were there. I off course will not be going with my scooter, I prefer to ride in "style" and comfort on my Bajaj Avenger.

:D:D:D
For sure... The buffs is the roughest it gets lol.

Lol, that's what everyone kept saying. I went to the Buff expecting to see people behave like a bunch of hooligans, instead everyone were very well behaved.

That totally changed my views on the Buff.

Perhaps it's mellowed now thatt it's not being run from PE. I know it has been given a lot of attention lately after a few deaths and other unfortunate incidents, and I know the CMA guys used to run an awesome coffee tent and activities for the kids - particularly good for those kids who's parents aren't aware of what's happening around them half the time. It is the biggest rally of it's kind in SA AFAIK.

I saw something LOL today... a guy with a serious Kawasaki racing jacket with the hunch... on an old 100cc with basket at the back lol. Perhaps the bike demanded a better jacket :)

You definately need a decent jacket and quality pair leather gloves. I use a pair of genuine leather Wolf gloves (probably about 30 years old) which my dad used when he still rode a bike to work. Those are great gloves, they are warm and have padding on the fingers, they also feature a neat waterproof cover that's hidden inside a zipped pocket on the top of the gloves.

You are way too nice to these new recruits.

Don't make these suckers soft!!

Real men don't wear warm gloves.

Actually that is pretty cool. Not sure how well it would be received - you get two camps these days - those who think scooters are cool and those who don't. That bike seems like it's for those who don't think scooters are cool but secretly want one lol. They will likely be ragged no end. I'd love to see that thing in action - must look and sound amusing when taking off. Nice looking thing though... and 150 - not too shabby.

I agree with what you said. I would buy one now of they were available. I love the fact that it doesn't look like a scooter, but it gives you the features of a scooter like CVT transmission which is perfect for using in and around town.

1000 KM service, and all is well!

Going to ride through the winter like a Real Man? Get good waterproofs about now.
Riding in the wet is really special. Just keep eyes out and ahead for pricks on cells or not looking.

Recommendations on good rain gear? What I've found so far in SA doesn't look the part

I got a good rain suit at TracMac for around R500. Keeps you dry for about 30 minutes in average rain, but that is all you need in CT as you can get from one side of the city to the other in that time ;)

The secret is to replace the gear pretty often as the seals will eventually fail. Especially the pants.

Thats the stuff I have been looking at, but if you say it works and stops me getting that "pissed in my pants" look then all is well :D

LOL yeah it works for about a year in my experience and then the "incontenence" sets in. Then it's time for a new broek.

An old biker once told me: Unless you're willing to spend mega mega bucks there is no such thing as waterproof bike gear. It will get wet so the only difference between products is how long it takes for the water to reach your skin.

I'll just drive around in my underwear, and keep my pants in a plastic bag for later application.

Still enjoying it? Do you feel safe when riding? How do you store your riding gear when at the shop etc?

From an also new rider (not a scooter though), I'm still loving it. Started riding in the heart of the Cape winter (rode every day to work), so its only going to get better now. And I got my first taste of off roading last weekend, fark thats fun :D
Safety is up to the rider. I've had a few (non life threatening) close calls, but looking back afterwards I realise I could've avoided most if not all of them.
As for shops, I go in with full gear (minus my helmet, put that in a top box) :D Its funny at times with the looks I get

edit: I hope copa is still enjoying his two wheels as well :D
