I have a 2GB Vodacom bundle on an open contract at R 149 per month. Last month I went over the data allocation by around 2GB – 3GB and I received a bill for R 2450. All OK – I knew the allocation and I went over it; fair enough.

This is where they screw me: I called the call centre and asked to be migrated to a 5GB bundle for the following month. I noted the 5GB pricing is currently R 259 monthly and I expected a similar price to upgrade. Much to my surprise the lady says the migration will be around R 789 monthly – 3X more than the “promotion” This promotion on data bundles has been running for a good few months so I no longer consider it to be a “promotion, rather EDLP (everyday low pricing)… The reason provided that I cannot move to the R 259 or similar option as that that is a promotional price; but, I am currently on a promotional price… so I am moving from one promo to a larger cap on a promo… makes sense?

I totally fail to see the logic in this type of; well, let’s call it an absolute con and rip-off. As a loyal client of Vodacom for over 10 years I now get to pay 3X more than someone who has just joined? I paid my part of their network infrastructure – yet a new customer gets this all for gratis – basically, because their loyal clients are paying the big bucks while the new ones get lekker specials.

OK, next point: So after my discussion with the call centre they promised me that a manager will call me in 10 minutes to discuss the options. Hopefully paying 3X more will result in great service; but ALAS – 5 hours later I am still waiting…

Well Vodacom – if this is your strategy - http://www.vodacom.com/av_wwa_strategy.php; you have a very, very long way to go.

If you follow our discussions with Jannie and Ockie on this forum you will have learnt that some of us have tried to be migrated to bigger promotional bundles, but failed. Apparently those only work for new contracts and SIMs and I assume upgrades.

Then I will mention this on as many social media sites as I humanly can. It is a blatant rip-off, And there is very little room to dispute it.

Yes totally illogical but that's Vodacom for you, same way you can't load the prepaid promo bundles or check balances from the portal.

Not too sure as I have always only delt with Vodacon... pity as I am been taken for a ride here....

It looks like you enjoyed the ride thus far and with a bump in the road you suddenly feel how ruff the ride was all along. You probably need more Vaseline to continue the ride or swap horses.

Hi , please pm me your number , let me see how i can help.

They are called VodaCON for a reason. Thats how they treat customers, and thats why they have lost so many clients to Cell C and with the brilliant moron Shameel, Shmameel, whatever the !@$% his name is, they will continue to the laughing stock of mybb

LOLWHUT? They still stuck in the Dark Ages?

With Afrihost I can upgrade/downgrade my package any time I want to...

Surely cellular providers can do the same?

This is not fair enough. This is getting screwed. The income derived from people getting charged out of bundle rates is probably a significant portion of Vodacom's income. And this won't be the first time it happens to you either, trust me...

Is it possible on normal voice contracts to upgrade from a smaller package to a bigger one? With any of the providers? Without resetting the contract to a new 24 months period?

I think yes - but at almost 3X the price.
