For example, take Telkom's actual local calling rate. It works out to around 43c per minute.
Screamer's rate is quoted at 66c per minute

their download/upload speeds are crap. You will be better off with telkom internet or axxess. openweb. Please don't get hooked by screamer. its a hoax to the ISP market.

Screamers advertised rates are misleading, to say the least. Their data packages page creates the impression that you get 5GB for R115 a month, no matter what line speed you use.

It's a different story when you try to suibscribe, as they have stepped costs, linked to your line speed.

This is enough for me not to give them any business.

Yes, although their call rates looks wrong. By my calculations, Telkom long distance is only 65c/min during peak times, and local 44c/min with a 65c minimum charge.

http://www.telkom.co.za/common/pricelist/prices/local/custtomer_to_automatic_exh.html

Conventional calls (the minimun charge will not apply to on-net dial-up internet calls to ISP's)
Local (0-50km) 0.570 0.650 0.00635 0.00724 0.570 0.650 0.00302 0.00344
Long distance (>50km) 0.570 0.650 0.00950 0.01083 0.570 0.650 0.00475 0.00542

btw... you will be better of with Engen garages 1gig adsl package for R70.00 and you can actually use it on any type of line being a 384k line or 4mb it actually keeps up with your download/upload speeds.. I have been testing it for a while now... it works great.. that is if you don't mind going prepaid.

Apparently screamer have addressed this problem and attributed it to a typo. Now you should be able to get the same rate, no matter what speed you subscribe to.

The issue that I was trying to address in this thread is their VOIP rates. They are advertising 'National Fixed-line' rates to be more expensive than their own, when in fact, Telkom are actually cheaper. I'm just curious as to how they can advertise false info like this.

Good to hear, thanks.

Well I'm with them and getting 362 on my 384 line. What speeds are you getting??

You also work for them, and several support people I've spoken to over the last couple of days seems to have the same non-chalant issues you have when it comes to the network, "The problem isn't on my side, everything works fine for me"....

Fun how it appears that all wireless companies *loves* to blame the user and *loves* to tell them the problem is on their side and not with the company itself.

Where is Playoff? Log in with him and start something please, I'm bored.

On a 4MB line I get 370KB/sec on an Axxess account
On Screamer this falls to 60KB/sec.

This is using a download manager, downloading the same file, from the same location.

Something's seriously wrong - did you correct that pricing "typo" by throttling linespeed?

EDIT: and now, 2 minutes later, it's limping along at 10~15KB/sec....
