Screamer WiMax

Howzit

I am not getting any sense out of your tech support.
How come some screamer clients are getting international , while others are not ?
I have checked again this morning. WOW ( europe is just plain down ), but I am getting full local access. So the problem is definately not on my side of the link.

Wow, maybe you all should start writing some novels:D

My connection was down Wednesday for about an hour only. The rest of the time my connection was fine, while most of my friends with ADSL could not even connect.

Bash them, don't bash them, just so that everyone knows it is not nearly as bad as some say

Hey. Lol. I am in-fact an IT-Specialist/Coursewriter. I write at least 100 pages/week. I can't share my work though since I am under copyright oath with the customer.

Hi Guys

I need to explain what is happening with the Seacom link being down untill next Thursday.
We have redundancy on Neotel and SAIX and also our own Satellite connection.
However other ISP's have got to find bandwidth for the clients that they had on Seacom and that load is shared between the major cable connections. This means that even though we have redundant capacity on other upstream providers, as those upstream providers start adding these additional clients to their networks the performance degrades and we have to continuously switch provisioning.

I know that this is immediately obvious to our gamers because latency is the first to be affected and I apologise for this and we are trying to make sure we stay one step ahead of the upstream providers as they squeeze more clients on the pipes and obviously profit out of this Seacom misfortune.

International (wow related ) came back for me 3 days ago , I had 1 night of decent latency (300-400ms) and the last 2 nights I am getting 4K - 10K ms latency.

Hi Guys,

First off i love this forum. Secondly, GO SCREAMER!!!! I am situated on the dogs backside of south africa. Not even Telkom lines. Imagine my suprise when I got a 1Mbps Wifi, uncapped connection from them. Been flying now for 4 months. 1 day worth of downtime in that whole period. Not even the seacom problem seemed to get this puppy down. I was hesitant to give them a try, because of all the negative feedback, but no problems from my side. I just wish that some of the other ISP's was this reliable! *cough* t*lk** *cough*. And the best part of this whole thing is I actually get 5 - 10 Kilbytes per second (not kilobits) more on my connection, than advertised. Imagine, an South African ISP giving you more than you asked for. Albeit just 5-10 kilobytes per second. In South Africa i'll take what I can get.

To Screamer and Howzit, keep up the good work, and THANK YOU for the great service and products!

Question: How can i add an image to a post, i want to show you guys my speedtest.

I think you need to check your connection mate. I am in Bryanston and the worst in game latency I got was last Fri when it went to about 1k. Otherwise, using WTFast I average about 200 to 250ms.

If you are using speedtest then click on the "copy" button after your test and then paste it into your message here.

I use gamemax with my screamer wimax. Latency has been a bit higher (understandably) lately but works well at about 280-300ms.

I am normally on 300ms with battleping
Those nights I was getting insane latency

i tried WTFast as well as Gamemax
WTFast i get about 260ms - 300ms
Gamemax i get about 270ms - 350ms

goes a littler higher in 25man raids but not by much.
also i dont have the leatrix patch installed got rid of that as it was causing me more hassles than anything else.

This is horrible. My internet has been soo unstable since thursday night...

I just did a speed test. I have 0.00 mb/s upload and 0.31 download.
Ive never seen it higher than 0.5 download, yet im paying for a 1mb connection.

Please help me. Im so sick of my vent being unusable. And wow, thats not even worth it.

Crap.

The Screamer technicians came around today and were unable to get a signal for either WiMAX or Wi-Fi, leaving me completely stranded as Telkom have brilliantly decided to move us to a wireless service instead of replacing stolen phonelines - without actually having any wireless alternatives available.

howzit, is there any chance the signal to Glen Austin Ext. 1, Midrand could be boosted? The technician said there have been several houses in the area that have applied for Screamer, and we desperately need some form of connectivity as we've been without phones or internet for the past four months.

Please PM me your account no and I will have your connection investigated.
[Edit] Don't worry I have found your account no and will get the techies to contact you tomorrow

I will bring it up at our client forum tomorrow morning and see if they are planning to cover your area.

Seems like Sat-3 and SAFE are under high pressure this week due to Seacom been offline to Europe for maintenance. I have tried WebAfrica, Axxess, iBurst, Saix, all show same lag.

Hi Guys

We are doing our level best to make sure that our redundent broadband pipes are being used optimally to ensure that you are not affected by the Seacom outage but we do realise that our gamers latency lags occasionally. For those of you that are interested Seacom has advised us. as per their notice below, that the cable should be repaired sometime this week.
We apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused.

"SEACOM REPAIR UPDATE - 16 Jul 2010
During the course of the past week, SEACOM has continued to work closely with its partners to roll-out the repair work programme and restoration alternatives necessary to maintain adequate connectivity during this process.

The designated ship has been deployed to the location of the fault where it will proceed to locate the cable on the seabed. This will take place within an extended perimeter as the cable will have moved around the seabed from where the installation ship dropped it over a year ago. This is normal and caused by the natural sea bed movements and strong submarine currents in that area.

Once located with the help of cable station staff and specialised equipment, the cable will be picked up before being brought onboard the ship to undergo the necessary repair. This will include cutting the cable to remove the affected portion, reviewing the physical integrity of the cable before proceeding with the initial splicing of the spare cable segment which has been be tested and prepared while in transit onboard the ship. When the final splicing is completed, the entire system will be thoroughly tested before the cable is lowered back in the water.
Part of this process will entail the reconfiguration of the power supply to shut down and isolate the affected portion of the cable. This will only have a minimal effect on the intra-African services which remained unaffected by this outage.

Although the repair schedule remains on-track, with a completion date estimated for the later part of next week, a number of exogenous factors including location, water depth, currents and weather make this cable outage very difficult to repair."
