Screamer WiMax

Hi Guys,

I have a suggestion... if I understand correctly - we the SCREAMER unfortunates are sold "false" promises... ie Uncapped 1mbps connections that don't exceed 15kb/s due to some devious behavour? if you agree...
Maybe we should all stand together and get an investigator for proof + lawyer. If we all stand together we can bring our costs down and maybe if the investigation and lawsuit goes well at least get our money back and maybe some proper service?

The reason I feel something is fishy... I had a Wimax 1mbps connection that was not uncapped... and it performed flawlessly 70% of the time. Now I have an uncapped line and ... i peak at 15kb/s... something seems... fishy to me. Anyone else have any other examples?

So what do you guys think?
 
I totally agree, plus they ignoring all my attempts to communicate with them.

I am still awaiting for them to refund me for charging me for a Wimax CPE when they installed a Wifi one.

I'm a new member, so please excuse me. I recently got my screamer account, and sadly all is not well... How do you know if they installed a Wimax CPE or Wi Fi, and is there any difference in speed? I am in Potchefstroom and they installed a Navini Ripwave modem, instead of the CPE on the roof as shown on their website, is this right?. I supposedly have the 512 kbps, 3GB cap option and the speed is crap.

Any advise anyone?

Yeah, thats Pre-Wimax (or mobile wimax, depending on how much they paid to Cisco for it)

Don't expect much from it. Your best bet is to get the best signal quality that you can. It has a little LCD screen on the front that will tell you the signal strength and signal quality.
 
Yeah I know, and the signal in always just one bar or even nothing (which supposedly is enough blah blah). This sucks!

1 Bar is not good. If they tell you its enough for 512kb/s, they're lying.
 
.... and if u have FULL BARS?

Then it depends on the product they've set your CPE to, and what their backhaul can handle.
I've tested Ripwave's up to 6mbit/s on an unloaded Sector.

I really appreciate the enthusiasm chief but the rest of us "old" customers are so withered down by our experiences i doubt that any of us have any fight left in us. At this point most of us are deciding on alternatives if not switching to a different service all together. It's a crying shame that a company like Screamer are battling to get it right. I really would have loved a real "alternative" to Telscum products. At this stage it seems Screamer is more interested grabbing new clients than providing a real service or supported product. (Lets not get started on the accounting practices).

To be fair my connection has been STABLE for one WEEK now. So yes we can expect snow in JHB very soon.

C'mon... Full Bars... 15kb/s .... For some ironic reason after my post it went back to full speed (Murphy) but... I can promise you by 5pm... its going the slow route again.

You complaining I'm lucky to get 7 kb/s !

This is really ridiculous, how on earth can you offer people a contract for 1mb/s and give them this load of crap?

I'm also located in Potchefstroom, I have the same problem. Extremely slow speeds.

The Square Eyed Computers people told me it is head office's fault so will see what happens.

Are you also as unfortunate as I am? I cannot get Telkom so I am stuck with this garbage

I tested if their Potchefstroom network is the problem, I did some download speeds at 4'o clock in the morning, and got speeds of up to 127kb/s. The moment the clock slammed 8'o clock speeds went down to 20kb/s and from there on got only worse.

My signal is three bars.

Wow that sounds like the speed were all after. Yeah I'm in a complex where there are no tel lines, so I thought that getting wireless would be nice....

Exactly the same problem at my complex. I tried just about every service provider out there. Amobia is totally useless and expensive, at least Screamer is ON all the time, although they are very slow.

The guys at Square Eyed told me Screamer head office lied to them, something about head office not buying enough bandwidth each month so they intentionally slow down everything. They said it will be fixed this month. I'm not so sure about that though

I'm in, I advice everyone to download Netmeter, and use the data as evidence. It logs your bandwidth speed/data usage

Also ping for any package losses. Even a 1% package loss is a problem.

We will all have to submit out "reports" to someone who will forward everything at once to Screamer. Who will be given this responsibility?
