Despite the generally bad rep everyone seems to be giving Screamer, I decided to give them a try after both Telkom and Neotel refused to offer me service in my area (Edenvale!?!). After only getting contacted after posting on mybb, I sent in an application.

That same day I was called to arrange a signal test and installation. So far so good. They were supposed to come yesterday but an issue with one of the teams not pitching to work meant it was moved to today (Friday). I was called at 3 to be told the guys were going to be early but they would wait. Cool I thought.

The only problem is that it is an hour and a half after they were supposed to come (not counting that they were early) and still no sign.

Was having a good day but screamer have basically screwed my weekend. That makes three incompetent companies.

EDIT: I did try calling before I wrote the above post - the number which called me regarding the installation is a dead line, and the official website call centre number asks me to leave my name and number. Joy. :(

Update: They came on the following Monday and after a few hiccups with the speed in the first few days my connection is now flying :)

Welcome to the screamer family, presuming you get connected.

Notting new, they must be like any other SA company screwing the public over and over again and then you must say thank you to them for screwing you over and over again. I am getting really pissed of with SA companies attitude that we as consumer must praise them to heaven even if they give us $hitty service at rip off prices. Might sound like a rant, but had my fair deal of k@k service from the cell c for your self company and another big corporate today

@Cleric
I am really sorry that you were messed around and will get to the bottom of this on Monday and come back to you. Please PM me you contact no or name so I can make sure I am following up the correct install.

@moklet
Is there something that we didn't do correctly for you? If so please let me know so I can rectify it.

The worst part is I don't really have a choice. If I could get a regular phone line (let alone ADSL) this wouldn't be an issue.

Hey howzit, can you choose between wifi and wimax. I want wimax but that R3k up front is a bit steep. If I could pay that off in 3-6 months it would be a different story. So I would opt for the wifi instead.

Hi phonejunky
If you have WiFi and WiMAX coverage in your area then you can opt for what connection you want.
You can pay the WiFi and WiMAX once off rental over 3 months.

Aaaand it isn't. Second day in a row my signal isn't up in the morning (?) then comes back ok later in the day. Speeds are pretty dismal - spent 6 hours downloading an Xbox demo of 800Mb and only got to 14% (+- 110MB, so around 40Kb - bits not bytes - or 5KB per second). Looking for alternatives to come test signal - if the speeds don't improve I am cancelling.

Still, going to give Screamer the benefit of the doubt and see how it pans out until the end of the week.

UPDATE: Got a call from Screamer. Am going to go home and test again and see what is up, maybe post some speedtest results.

Got to give props to Screamer - my signal is now twice as strong as before and my connection seems to have picked up speed nicely. So far so good :)

Hi Cleric

I use screamer and have not had a problem. They are one of the best providers I have used. Service is excellent and they always send an sms when there is a problem. Never had a problem with the signal and the internet is super fast.
