Screen Appearance

The OS on my laptop had to be removed and re-installed, together with all programmes, and ever since then the screen's appearance is not quite what it was before.

Text and photos seem a bit 'stretched'.

I tried to change the screen resolution, but it seems not to be able to change by small increments - its either 1024 by 768 pixels or 800 by 600 pixels. Neither gives me the effect I want.

Any assistance you guys can offer?

You probably want to mention which OS it is and which laptop u have.

And the graphics card.
Probably the driver that's missing.
 
Agreed... Probably graphics driver missing.

If you have a widescreen aspect ratio (most likely), then the native resolution is probably 1280 x 800. If you have a normal aspect ratio (unlikely) then the native resolution is probably 1280 x 1024.

Either way, the native resolution would likely require the graphics driver to be installed and functioning.

You need to check your device manager for any question/exclamation marks - this indicates a missing driver (most likey a generic one used in its place). Try to find the name of the device from there and google that name plus 'driver'.
That, or get the person who reinstalled XP to finsish the damn job!
 
Hahah bluno can the resolution not go higher than 1280 x 800?

what are all the options? what is the laptop model? should say somewhere on the laptop.

This guy is not very helpful. Pointed it out to him and he says he 'does not see the problem, it looks fine to him'. Geek :rolleyes:

Cried like a baby over his unpaid invoice, even though he did not even re-install my HP software properly. Just old me it's my problem now.

The guy is obviously not concerned with quality and has no pride in his work!

It does look as if there are questions marks and/or exclamation marks next to video controller, SM Bus controller and Modem Device on High Definition.

Could that be related to my particular problem?
 
right click on my computer -> properties
-> hardware -> device manager -> display adapters -> right click on whateve is under display adapter -> update -> Yes, this time only

maybe, just maybe that will help

ok, so it's a toshiba, a satelite edition - any other model numbers or anything?

lift it up an look underneath at the stickers or something, so we can find out what graphics card it uses.

give as much info as you can this time, i don't want to see this happening:

blu: "my laptop is giving problems"
which laptop?
blu: "it's a toshiba"
what toshiba?
blu: "satelite"
which satelite?
blu: "the new one"

Right click on the desktop. On XP select "Properties". On Vista select "Personalize". You want to see what your screen resolution is. It's probably 1024x768 where it should be 1280x800.

Remember now, I need step by step instructions :D

When I right click on my computer - properties, I only get a new window with 2 tabs, i.e. general and shortcut. There is no option like hardware !!!

You are then right clicking on a shortcut, not on the REAL my computer.

Press Windows key + E. A Windows explorer window will open, likely with 2 panes. In the left pane, you will find the right My Computer to right click on.

This is like pulling teeth :D

Why can people not simply post the Brand, Model & Model# with their initial query :confused:
