My company just got me a new laptop because my old one was dying - WXVGA (1280x800) - is there anyway using software to get this up to 1600x1200 (minimum) - I can't handle the large 'everything'.

I like a lot of workspace.

Nothing can go beyond native... Sorry man, 1600x1200 was a dying resolution anways

There used to be software way back when, think in Win95/8, that could do something like this - virtual like...

Damn thing has HDMI out but can't go higher than this...

Sorry man, I don't think that this is possible....

You should be able to fit more information onto the screen by selecting a custom dpi setting under display properties - advanced

The native resolution refers to your laptop panel, your vga card can probably do much better. So if you connect your tv to the HDMI, it will show at the tv's native resolution.

Yeh - I'm talking about the actual LCD's native resolution...

You can't go beyond the panels native resolution..

The panel ALWAYS displays at that res, even if you give it a lower resolution image, it will "upscale" it to the native resolution.

and no software that'll downscale, even at a loss of quality? Basically make everything shrink so I can have more room?

Nope... because you will lose LOTS of quality..

your best bet is to use a custom DPI setting for your UI...
