I seem to be running seriously short on those little hard drive screws. Currently there are 2 on my Hard drive and only 1 on each optical drive...

Will the hardware store have these, and if so what do I ask for?

Otherwise where can I find some extras?

Just go to your corner computer store and ask them for some, they probably won't mind or will charge you a minimal fee. I normally ask for mine from the Matrix Computer shops. Now I have plenty laying around if you want to come and get some! :D They get them in little packets with the cases they put together and there are always some left over. As far as I know they don't usually sell them separately.

+1

Some PC workshops have thousands of screws just laying around. I usually just head on over to one and ask for a few. Got about 10 odd laying here as well, 'ICE'.

I have those screws lying everywhere. I've got many lying at ''strategic'' places all around at work.

Hmmm... you talking about those little tiny screws that lie around here and cause endless amounts of foot pain as I walk across the carpet? :) I see loads of those in my small PC room... but the funny thing is, when I need them I can't find them. They're like socks!

Well I just scavenged 2 more. My hard drive only had one... Now it has 3! Yay!

And on another note I just replaced my P4 stock cooler with a Zalman 7000 and my computer is not amazingly quiet - until the 850XT's fan spins up. But I also removed my intake fan, which was generic and very noisy. My two exhaust fans are CoolerMaster and are pretty quiet. I'm going to buy a Vantec 80mm fan for the front and see how it goes.

Sidenote: it's hard to find a fan that isn't covered in LEDs! What if I don't want my whole room lit up when I'm watching a movie?

I eventually found some fans without LEDs in Pretoria

I cut those dumb LEDs off. And I've given up on the idea of "silent computing". :D I might try a new set of magnetic bearing fans, but when one has 4 12cm fans it becomes a bit pricey to replace them all. :(
