So today I crossed back to the dark side and reactivated my DSTV subscription.

My issue is that my secondary decoder, the trusty old SD PVR now shows a be1 error. Multichoice says I need to replace the decoder but I would like a 2nd opinion. The SD PVR serves my tenant as well as the second tuner runs to my bedroom,

I really dont want to dispose of the decoder if I dont have to.

Any suggestions?

They've discontinued those decoders, I think you would need to go swap it out

If you tried the front panel procedure to try force a new software download and that failed, then you may be out of luck. Make sure your lnb connections are fully secure and try the front panel procedure a couple more times maybe? Allow up to 30 mins without interrupting the download.

To reset your SD PVR go to the PVR front panel and press V+ and P- at the same time
then when you see DL on the front panel press the play/pause and V- buttons at the same time
the PVR will now reset the flash and reboot

I think it's pretty much kaput. Sorry for the unfortunate news. Had another decoder that did the same. :(

It's an 0 be1 error, and it's because you went to the dark side

BE1 is because of a PSU problem. No amount of fiddling will solve it...

Not convinced either way. Many examples of Multichoice's Fathima explicitately stating it is not a PSU issue - http://forum.dstv.com/archive/index.php/t-17086.html

After the big change on the DSTV network last night/this morning (1 Oct 2012) my SD-PVR is displaying BE1. So I spend a few minutes on the telephone with a consultant and he told me to bring the decoder in so that they can check. Took it in and the guy at the counter told me it’s a power supply problem and I need to pay to get it fixed because it’s out of warranty. This is not acceptable, my decoder was working 100% fine before they did the upgrades on our systems and according to me there firmware upgrade broke my decoder. Why must I now pay for something DSTV broke? To prove that it was still working they can check the HDD, there are still recordings from last night on the HDD. I did try the reset function also but no luck.
My HD PVR (primary) upgraded perfectly and is still working so it’s not an LNB problem. Only the SD-PVR (Secondary) now have issues.

please advise which branch you took the decoder to, and which counter you went to? sayng it was teh power supply- is incorrect

This was not caused by the changes we made today- chances are you will have to get a new decoder
