SEACOM cable hit by outage

Anyone running FTTB and is affected by that - could you perhaps mention who the FTTB provider is (other than the obvious being Seacom)?

you can add this.

*Our repair vessel is being mobilized and a tentative plan of work will be available soon. As this is a subsea outage, expected down time is 3 to 6 weeks.*

That's the same time-frame Telkom gives you when applying for a land line :p

Today's notice on MWEB homepage.

International Outage

Update @ 10:00am on Wednesday 12th April. No change to yesterday’s update. SEACOM are indicating that it could take between 3-6 weeks to repair the cable break. We're in discussions with a number of operators to secure more international bandwidth on alternative cable systems to cover any shortfall during peak times.

This cable probably holds the record for outages. Would be nice to have a list of ISPs that use them.

DSTV streaming affected by this? It hasn't been great for a while...

Surely DSTV has local servers.

DSTV make use of backup servers located overseas. so there is a possibility that it will affect DSTV services as well.
It depends on how DSTV has its network configured and what is provided and stored where.

Update: 2017-04-13: 15:00

Confirmed. No direct impact on DSTV services by the Seacom failure. This should only affect streaming services IF your ISP somehow is affected by the outage
