SEACOM restoration update

The first person to suggest the running of a cable across the ocean to connect continents must have been seen as a crazy person.

in ten years someone, somewhere, will simply press a button and a little army of underwater repair bots will go and fix the problem.

Wonder how far this cable can move under the sea., and then can get buried under it.

But, unless a fish trailer hooks it, supposed to last very long.

Think of all the poor little pixies who have to carry the data all the way along that cable with their little oxygen masks on and scuba gear. Poor little guys.

just a q . . How does somthing break repetadly . If there is no one around to break it? Looks like that part of the sea is dangerous

All the downloading by the newly uncapped accounts overloaded the thing and popped a fuse ;)

As far as I am concerned, their press release could be contracted to 'we can't find the cable- please be patient' and it would retain the same meaning

From memory this is the first actual seacom break. The other breaks were mostly related to neotel's "land" network. The last major downtime was caused by SEA-ME-WE 4 which is a south Eurasian cable.

True. This is the first outage on Seacom's actual physical cable.

Well, hopefully it was just the repeater unit. How much does one of those repeater units cost? :D

200 000$

I price somewhere around there was mentioned on the za tech show.

Interestingly, they also mentioned there is some talk that the particular repeater model could be flawed. Lets hope not.
