SEACOM's SMW4 cable woes continue

Just a note, SEACOM just came back up.

There may still be some instability and route convergence may take a bit, but the cable itself seems to be back up again.

On a previous post I mentioned that the seacom breaks happen only on long weekends and never during bussiness hours (1 or 2 exeptions here) - and guess what its long weekend again - dont think it's ship anchors.

glad i'm not with MWEB anymore. changed a while back to OPENWEB due to MWEBS telkom like mannerism.Yeah still downloading, surfing did'nt even know seacom was down

It's sad to see what can happen if you rely on an external business entity for your core product and they let you down.

That said, this has been an issue for so long, SEACOM needs to urgently re-evaluate their reliance on SMW4 - perhaps investing in another route for redundancy and optimizing their operational plan for switching over to redundant connectivity on SMW4 failure.

Being in the headlines every time someone screws up in the Mediterranean surely can't be good for your corporate image, and one has to wonder how many providers will jump ship when WACS become available, perhaps using SEACOM only for redundancy. I know personally I would prefer stability over speed..

At a friend's house now who has 4mb Mweb uncapped. Geez I've never been more happy to be a Telkom user. Seriously, every single page just time's out, both international and local. Took me 10 mins just to access this thread to post a reply.
