Seagate 1TB External Harddrive - prolems, problems, problems

Has anybody else experienced prolems with Seagate external hard drives?

About 6 months ago (maybe longer), my external hard drive (1TB) the power supply apparently burnt out and destroyed the drive. I waited for more than 6 months for seagate to finally replace the drive. But i still last ALL my data! Nochance of data recovery and at the price they were charging Seagate woul not pay for it! And yet we are supposed to trust them with our data but if their hardware breaks, no longer interested.....

Now the 2nd one is on its last legs! Thank god i backed this one up onto (another seagate hdd???).

Plug it in, no response. The clips / connections are not bent. It has NOT been dropped or even given weird looks. Okay, I'll admit i do look at it in desperation to boot up.

Is Seagate known for inferior chassis or drives? Because i was assured the one of, if not , THE best.

Maybe someone can advise, cause i am less-than-impressed. This will be the 3rd Seagate 1TB i have had to replace within the last 16 months! So much for data storage and reliability

Eish. Another -1 to Seagate. Their 7200.11 [internal] drives have a ±40% failure rate.

Backup all your data ASAP and send the drive in again...

And I recommend Samsung (their 1TB drives have just landed) and Western Digital ... And an external enclosure of your choice (Antec MX100 is cheap).

My 500GB WD external saw its arse about two months ago.

I'm beginning to think it would be better to build a small portable NAS box.

Backup all your data ASAP and send the drive in again...

+1. My new external Mecer Bravo has a Samsung inside and it's super fast. Not one problem.

my 400 gig seagate external boots up but does nothing else,windows doesn't pick it up, seagate is not as trustable as they once were!

You want to know what the really sad part is? It died while I had my internal drives cleanly formatted for re-partitioning & OS installation. I also flashed my internal Seagate 500GB firmware at this stage. It *was* my backup to restore afterwards. Now I have no data

Wow. Now that's really bad luck.

Keep that drive and save up and look for a cheap data recovery place. Somone on these forums paid R1500 for data recovery for 250 - 500GB (can't remember).

The only critical stuff on the drive is really my fotos. The rest of the porn, movies & last 10yrs worth of backups I can do without.

My music I got back as a friend had it 'backed up' for me

Well I used to go Seagate with my eyes closed after WD had that bad patch... but after reading this (and other threads) Im thinking again!!

Im in the process of getting a 1TB drive, and that goodness I didnt get that seagate 7200.11

I was eyeing the SSD, but that is serious $$$$ still. So I should go for WD rather for my 1TB? There must be a reason why its more expensive!??

OOOH. That 1tb Black drive from WD is flipping fast. They perform on the level of their 15krpm raptor drives.

I second that. After the whole firmware issue I switched over to WD...

Bleh, I also lost 5 years worth of photos. Hanging onto the drive for data recovery when I can afford it.

Yes. Stay away from ALL their 7200.11 drives.
