No. It is a standard USB connection. DKU-5 will work, it has USB/RS232 converter.

Resurrecting an old thread but got bitten by this bug recently. Anyone still have one of these cables. Its proving very hard to find the CA-42, millions of CA 53's all over the place but thats about as close as I can get.

Very unlikely that it's the bug that's affecting your drive. After all these years it's most likely a bad head or some other issue.

so it was the bsy bug. Managed to get a usb to TTL adapter on netram.co.za and using a few how-to's online got it working again.. So relieved.

Just wondering now, is the issue resolved, or do I still need to update the firmware to stop the hdd from bricking again?

Mine has bricked itself twice so I've kept the USB to TTL adapter handy. To this day Seagate updater reckons my drive is not affected and refuses to do a firmware update
