Seagate 7200.11 BSY (not detected in BIOS) error solution

The large majority of SD15 drives have already failed in this respect - people have made their quick bucks and moved on.

Hi Guys,

I too have a Seagate 7200.11 drive (500GB's) with the SD15 firmware. After reading through all the posts here, I suspect my drive is affected by the same BSY error described. I can no longer access my data.

I'm willing to try the solution posted at the beginning of this thread but need a CA-42 cable. I'm in Durban. Does anyone have one of these cables that they have already modified and successfully used? If so, I'd be interested in loaning or buying the cable from you.

Your help with this cable would be sincerely appreciated.

There is a correct version of the cable floating around that I donated a while back for this purpose, it seems to move between forum members for this exact purpose. Perhaps the person who last had it can send it to you.

If you cover postage of the drive I can resolve the issue at no cost.

Hello Guys

Anyone in Richards bay or durban that has the cable? looks like i have the same problem, all my study data and pics inaccessible...

please let me know if anyone can borrow me the cable, my attempts at cellshops have been unsuccessful...

I think forum member kilobits was the last to have it, but I may be wrong. Just be careful because the 7200.11 drives we see these days with the 'BSY bug' are often not just suffering from the well know issue. They have the same symptoms, but the cause is usually a bad head. Be careful when doing DIY. Maybe you're lucky, but there's a chance it's probably a different failure.

Well, I was one more sufferer of the evil BSY bug, and South_Bit managed to sort me out :D All I had to do was post the drive down to CT and cover his time, and wahey - my files are all back! I'm thrilled! And it certainly took far less hassle than buggering around with hacking cables and terminal programs.

South_Bit = AWESOME. I'm a fan!

My seagate ST31000528AA (1TB 7200.11) has the firmware Version CC38

Also have a ST2000DL003-9VT166 (2TB 5900) firmware CC32

Am I in the clear of this bug?

Sorry for the bump of an old thread, just want to know if anyone in Cape Town is still doing a fix for this problem, my 500gb Seagate just got the BSY bug or if anyone has a Nokia CA-42 data cable that I can borrow.

You can contact South_Bit, the guy in the post above yours. PM him or go to his site http://www.southbit.co.za/

Don't expect South_Bit to provide free service. I think he donated one converter to MyBB users, it should be somewhere in circulation. :)

If your drive is experiencing 'BSY bug' symptoms only now, there's a good chance it's not just the aforementioned bug, but most likely a hardware fault which is showing you similar symptoms. Firmware SD15 cases have mostly failed by now, the ones we get in these days have internal issues, not DIY.

I donated one to the forum community specifically for this reason. If anyone wants it just ask around, someone has it.

Donated or borrowed and never returned? :)
For this reason I am not willing to donate mine, but if you are in JHB area and have this specific problem, it is 5 minutes job I don't mind.

Anyone know's if the DKU-2 Nokia original cable will work ? :-(

My ST31500341AS failed a few days ago :-(
