After spending an entire afternoon driving around P.E looking for a Samsung/Western Digital 500gb HDD I had to settle for the Seagate. I wouldn't touch a 7200.11 500gb with a ten foot pole but I managed to find a place with the 7200.12 and ended up taking 2.

Has anybody had any issues with them? I'm hoping the firmware issue on the older drives was just a small dent in Seagates rep and that these are back up to standard.

Brawler you can be sure .12 is a revision of the .11 :)

You should not have to many problems i rate, not anymore than any other drive. They would not mess up twice is my logic :p

Good luck man! I swapped my 7200.11 for a WD after the freakkin thing died on me and I had all my days to get my data recovered. But the guys at CSS (Computer Storage Services) said that the 7200.12's would be ok. Then again, will anyone actually know till it fails again?

Good. I cannot risk losing my pron collection

I'm thinking of getting a 1TB 7200.12 as well. Should I?

The .12s are better than the .11s in terms of temperature. Not sure in terms of speed.

If you want a fast drive, get the Samsung Spinpoint HD103UJ 7200RPM 32MB, slightly more than the .12.

If you just need storage, get a Seagate 1TB LP (low power) 5900RPM drive. Or a 5400RPM Samsung Spinpoint. ;)

Thanks. I'm more concerned about the drives not crashing etc, as I was reading through many of the 7200.11 threads. I was looking at this one -> http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?products_id=25058
