Seagate Freeagent Desk - 1TB

As much as I'd like more business... Stick to the 7200.12 series! :D

Can you please suggest something else then. Not quite sure what the 7200.12 means or where to look for it

Keep checking this link daily, they have been know to run specials regularly, and Fridays are a favourite for them. Add to that a casing and away you go.

+ get the cheapest HDD you can get, the brand and size you want, and select an enclosure you like. cheaper too (unless you going for a dual enclosure or something of course :p)

I'd vote for getting a decent enclosure. Does not have to cost the earth, but these plastic jobbies from China are prone to failing and sometimes taking your drive with them...

7200.12 is just the series of the drive... the previous series, the 7200.11 was a total cock up. I spend my life bringing these drives out of the BSY state!!!

Stick to WD for now, those Black Edition drives are awesome... I got a 1TB Black as my main system drive!

+1

plastic is for the birds and your drive will get warm. Go with brushed aluminium

Cool, I've seen the Western Digital - My Book Essential II 1TB - 3.5inch - 7200RPM External Hard Drive at digitalplanet for R1319.

I must say, I'd rather buy a packaged drive, as in already enclosed, rather than the two separately.

Indeed, I don't think it makes much difference. I just prefer them separate as I have had more all-in-one enclosures fail than separate ones. But maybe it's just me :p
