Hi all,

Just thought I'd share this;

I have a 2TB Seagate that has gone faulty - won't be long before it crashes.

I've contacted Rectron and they told me I can bring it to them and they'll swop it out - R75 charge for that even though it's under warranty till Feb 2018.

I've seen a few threads (when searching) but I thought I'd update it with a specific thread for Rectron.

Personally I think it's unnecessary especially since the lady explained it's due to having to send it to JHB - sorry, but I know for a fact that you guys send packages up and down between your branches and thus a R75 charge is unnecessary - however, it's a small price to pay for the inconvenience of having to run around finding out where EXACTLY it was purchased.

Abit off topic, but recently had a seagate HDD go faulty in a dell PC. Used Dell's online diag tool, after which it confirmed faulty HDD.
Filled in the online form on where to receive the replacement. Few days later, courier drops off new HDD and advised they will return in 2-3 days to pick up the old one. No charge to me. I just used clonezilla and was and running in a few hours.

But all this comes at a premium for a branded pc.

Seagate hard drives used to be great back in the day.
Now you can't trust them or any hard drive anymore.

I won't be surprised if a HDD maker comes up with a "will never fail" feature one day... :erm:

The warranty swap fee is a standard practice when a wholesaler honors a warranty when their not obliged to do so. There are several Seagate importers in SA. The fun starts when you can't find a single one that will help.

Rectron will not charge any fees for items which were imported by them. The fee only applies when drive was imported by someone else.

If you find distributor's who was importing it, they will replace it at no charge as well.
