Does it matter how old the drive is? As I also have a 500GB internal that died on me.

Does the age of my 500gb drive matter as it has been sitting in my draw like a year already. So it could be over 3 years old already.

Highly unlikely. Factor in shipping costs too. Go for a new one.

Thats a old .12 model hard drive, the newer ones .14 and up dont fail as much.
