Search-engine study says Microsoft Bing better than Google

those statistics don't take other factors into account and thus are flawed.

1) Most computer-illiterate people dont enter the website they want, into the address bar, but rather into the search engines search bar. They perform a search and click on the first result. Even if they visit the website everyday, they will repeat this ritual time and time again.

2) most computer illiterate people don't perform complex searches, simply because they don't know what the internet is capable of. My beauty therapist friend is not going to search for a torrent of the 1980 TV series Tour of duty.

That said, a higher percentage of computer-illiterate users use bing- simply because that is the default search engine on the default browser in windows.

Amen to that.

That said, I would like to use the "best" search engine but hate M$ so much :p

Already been +1'd twice. But I feel like the truth deserves another, so:

+1

very relevant...

I'm also gravitating to Bing since Google adwords are starting to get annoying. Google is also feeling really cluttered of late.

Oh i've been using Bing a bucket load since it came out. It's getting better and better all the time. I'm at the point now where I don't care if the search bar in my browser is Bing or Google. They often have different sets of results, and sometimes it's nice to use both.

I've tried bing a few times and it failed in finding what I wanted. Google has not let me down yet. To the guys saying you only get shopping sites you're doing it wrong.

Dude, are you not being harsh here? Computer illiterates don't know how to use a computer at all. If they are able to use the search engine, halleluh - they graduate from the illiteracy lot...

SEO is breaking Google. It has definitely become increasingly difficult to find relevant pages recently because you have to wade through junk artificially ranked higher thanks to SEO practices.

Only problem I have with Google is when I sometimes look for software, the 1st 900 hits normally point to torrents or warez instead of the official sites of the crap I look for.

Must say I'd forgotten that Bing still exists. Guess these sort of news keep reminding us other search engines do exist.

Yahoo was it in the mid 90s. I switched to Google when Yahoo stopped performing, perhaps its time to try bing though my trust for everything Microsoft is not particularly high. I dont expect them to deliver unbiased results, they've proven again and again that they aren't there for the consumer.

Um, Google adwords?!?

Bing US is great, I did test it with the help from a friend there and well there I would take it over google because of, while some results aren't ranked as well as they could have been, they have multiple sites with the correct data displayed on page 1. Though for top link, Google still provides the most relevant.
Sadly here, Bing is the biggest load of **** ever, so I stick with Google on Chrome or IE9.

Agreed, whenever I search for stuff normally I use Google because although it brings up a lot of crap (shopping sites when I am looking for reviews..), it still finds the content, whereas Bing seems to only really target the US. Searching for anything US related is BRILLIANT with Bing. I just hope Bing sort it out to give Google some proper competition.
