Okay hey everyone,

I live in the west of Pretoria in a kinda newish security complex and last year when I called Telkom to install a phone line for me they refused :( and told me there isn't enough people in the complex that also want the installation and they only pull the cables through if enough people want it :(

Anyways...

Something I didn't tell them now that I think about it is that I can see the telephone pole about 10m from my house (I'm in the corner of the security complex)... Do you guys think there will be any chance that they would actually connect only my house to that pole? Is it possible? Thus I'm not asking them to do the whole security complex.. only my house in the corner..

Possible?

Is the telephone poll in our complex? You might have to ask your body corporate first if it is not.

Does the pole have a distribution box on it? (You can normally see a number on it).

Is there a road between your unit and the pole? (Telkom is not allowed to run any cables over a road).

Then the question is also if there are spares available in the box. If there are no spares then you are a bit out of luck.

But peanutpakkie does have a valid point. The body corporate will not like an ugly peace of black cable to be run over the wall.
You also need their written approval to allow anyone to drill into any of the complex walls (even if it is a Telkom technician).

Have you considered 3G yet? :)

No the telephone pole is outside the complex wall.. There isn't any road there at all... don't know if there is a box.. I'm at work now else I would've checked but I don't think there is.. Would it be able to work without the box near ? :(

I don't think I'll have a problem with the body corporate ;-) I just want the cable to come over the wall from the pole.. and I'm wondering if Telkom would do something like this (or I'll have to stop the first Telkom bakkie and bribe the guy to come do it :P ohh yeahh.. "bribe" I'm considering it lol )

Well I've been with Vodacom for 6 months now because of the issue with Telkom... I'm farely happy with Vodacom but since the 24th of December I've been trying to get that Cell C thing going for me but I only pick up EDGE speeds even though I'm in a RED ZONE on their coverage map... So... Cell C might not be an option so I was just wondering if I should call Telkom or try something to get a telephone line from that pole or if I should just return to using Vodacom.

Guys this is actually an easy one. Odds are good that you have a few other people out there in your complex who also whishes to have DSL installed to their homes.

Get all the people to put orders in. If you can get say 10 houses who have valid order numbers put all the order numbers together and get in touch with Network Planning at Telkom. With the body corporate permission you will then be services with Telkom landline.

Just keep nagging 'em.
