Selling car on Weelee

Anybody done it before? Experiences?


So many of you know that we recently bought a new(er) car.

We opted not to trade the old vehicle in on the deal because we knew we would get way more when selling privately. So after getting a few shopping trolley scratches fixed and doing a full valet on the old vehicle we started advertising it over the weekend. Plenty of interested buyers but most turned out to be schemers, time wasters or guys trying to bully you into selling cheaper by pointing out every little microscopic scratch on a 2nd hand vehicle.

Then I remembered on Sunday about all these ads on 702 I kept hearing about a new way to sell your car. Wheelie something. Turns out it is Weelee. Checked out the website and decided to give it a shot. I mean why not? It is obligation free after all and I will get an immediate estimate.

First impressions and estimate were depressing to say the least. Going rate according to their records for our vehicle is between Rxxx and Rxxx. Actually way less than most dealers offered when we were considering trade-in on the new vehicle. Ridiculous actually. So I just left it at that. It was after all no obligation on everything.

But Monday afternoon I received a call and mail from them stating that the car will be going on online auction anyway this Tuesday until 16h00 and that they will be sending me the highest offer when bidding is done.

17h00 arrives and sure thing. Mail pops up with you have received an offer on your vehicle.

Surprise surprise. Offer is actually a decent one and I now have 24 hours to decide to accept or decline. Again, no obligation.
It is less than what we advertised and hoped to get for it but I'm starting to seriously consider going this route just to avoid more private buyer chancers like we had this whole weekend. Very frustrating.

So apparently now if I accept the offer, the dealer who made the highest bid will guide me through the rest of the process which includes payment and collection of the vehicle. They will also handle all the paperwork and transfers.

Have a few hours left to decide if I want to go the frustrating private route for a few Rk more or not.

Whether I accept or decline I will post an update of course.

Interested to hear other opinions and experiences though.
 
i have not had any experience with this. but im interested in the outcome.
 
Why didn't you try WEbuycars first?They offered me the highest of any dealer.
 
So I haven't decided yet but Weelee consultant did phone me again now.

Wanted to confirm if I received the offer and explained what will happen further should I accept or decline the deal. Obviously decline or no answer and nothing happens.

He also confirmed to me that it is indeed one of the biggest (and very reputable) dealerships in Pretoria who had the "winning bid". Unfortunately he is not allowed to divulge the name because exchange of these details only happen after acceptance of the offer.

Should I accept I will immediately receive correspondence with the full details of the dealership and a contact at the dealership who will go through the rest of the process with me. Dealership will also receive all my details then.

Dealership will arrange a date and time to physically inspect the vehicle to confirm that all details are in fact as described by me when I loaded the vehicle on the site. No issue with that. They obviously get a bunch of bullshtters!.

When all is in order they will verify the offer or revise the offer if they feel extra repairs/work needs to be done other than the faults described when loading. When we then agree on final price, payment happens and the dealership will handle all further paperwork and collection of vehicle when payment is cleared.

What's very nice is when I logged onto the site again now. The full bidding history was available to view. Received over 60 bids with 2 or 3 dealers really interested in the vehicle. Winning bidder clearly interested from the get go. They were one of the first 3 bids and about 7 or 8 bids after that until winning. Bidding history just shown by Dealer 1098 or Dealer 1001 etc....
 
So I pulled the trigger about 30min ago.

Instantly received a mail with the dealers details. Also that they have been informed of my acceptance of the deal and all my details have been forwarded. They will now contact me for inspection in the next 24hrs.

And as my luck would have it I receive another hit on the Gumtree ad with a guy who seems seriously interested.
 
Going to check them out - too lazy to gumtree my car.

EDIT: Initial offer even lower than webuycars... by about 10%

Been a waste of time for me, unless someone is desperate, or has a vehicle with issues, I can't imagine going this route.

Just to add to this conversation. I've bought and sold quite a few vehicles privately and via the likes of Webuycars etc. I have found that depending on the vehicle in question (brand, model, year, kms etc) you will get higher (or lower) offers from certain companies. Its not accurate to say something like "webuycars always low balls" or "Carzar gives the best prices"

Spend some time to get different offers. I always do, and they differ quite a bit (at least R10 000 and more)

Dealer is coming to view and inspect vehicle later this afternoon. Will update then.

My initial offer was also crazy xrapidx. Let the auction run its course and see what the dealers offer in the end. I was surprised by the final offer.

All in all I am very impressed with the Weelee process. From now on it is unfortunately between the dealer and myself. So lets see and hope that the smooth ride continues.

one question for you [MENTION=64434]APoc184[/MENTION], after they come and see the car personally, can you still reject the deal?
I mean you have a gumtree guy who is also interested with a decent offer, what if?

Id use that to my advantage, and push the weelee guy higher, but again thats what Id do....
 
Mmmm... So no show from dealership at arranged time.

Got hold of the contact and he apologised with explanation that mechanic for inspection had to leave early due to family issues. Will reschedule for tomorrow.

Have to say it is bit frustrating as I have to arrange extra travel arrangements each time due to me using company vehicle for daily commute.
 
I see now on the mail correspondence of acceptance of the offer that Weelee reserves the right to offer me the next highest bidder should the current dealer not arrange and close a sale within 48hrs of acceptance.

IIRC the next highest offer was like R400 less than the one I accepted. So lets wait and see.

I am in no way desperate or in a hurry to sell (and fortunate to be in that position) so I have declined the opportunity from the current interested Gumtree seller for now.

Basically I am interested to see where the Weelee thing goes. Call me the guinea pig if you may!

Need to sell a rather old car in the near future. Really watching this with interest.

Really have no time for scammers or time wasters. Assume no one does.

That would be a really ******* thing to do. There was a auction, you should honour that agreement on the price.
 
Seems like they have a really cool concept. I wonder if normal people, not dealers can also bid on auctions and buy, not just sell.
