Selling car on Weelee

Sorry guys.

Guess I'm not going to be the one to tell you all about the whole experience.

2nd time round not so much bidding going on and offer was substantially lower than the first time round. So no go from my side.

Will revert back to private selling knowing I can get quite a bit more.

Sorry to hear about that. Bit of a bitter taste in my opinion.

Good luck with sale!

Sorry for the wasted effort. We were all hoping for an outcome.

Seems like the first dealer realized he was offering too much.

My thoughts too.

2nd round the offer was close to most trade in offers and slightly better than WBC.

Anybody done it before? Experiences?

So many of you know that we recently bought a new(er) car.

We opted not to trade the old vehicle in on the deal because we knew we would get way more when selling privately. So after getting a few shopping trolley scratches fixed and doing a full valet on the old vehicle we started advertising it over the weekend. Plenty of interested buyers but most turned out to be schemers, time wasters or guys trying to bully you into selling cheaper by pointing out every little microscopic scratch on a 2nd hand vehicle.

Then I remembered on Sunday about all these ads on 702 I kept hearing about a new way to sell your car. Wheelie something. Turns out it is Weelee. Checked out the website and decided to give it a shot. I mean why not? It is obligation free after all and I will get an immediate estimate.

First impressions and estimate were depressing to say the least. Going rate according to their records for our vehicle is between Rxxx and Rxxx. Actually way less than most dealers offered when we were considering trade-in on the new vehicle. Ridiculous actually. So I just left it at that. It was after all no obligation on everything.

But Monday afternoon I received a call and mail from them stating that the car will be going on online auction anyway this Tuesday until 16h00 and that they will be sending me the highest offer when bidding is done.

17h00 arrives and sure thing. Mail pops up with you have received an offer on your vehicle.

Surprise surprise. Offer is actually a decent one and I now have 24 hours to decide to accept or decline. Again, no obligation.
It is less than what we advertised and hoped to get for it but I'm starting to seriously consider going this route just to avoid more private buyer chancers like we had this whole weekend. Very frustrating.

So apparently now if I accept the offer, the dealer who made the highest bid will guide me through the rest of the process which includes payment and collection of the vehicle. They will also handle all the paperwork and transfers.

Have a few hours left to decide if I want to go the frustrating private route for a few Rk more or not.

Whether I accept or decline I will post an update of course.

Interested to hear other opinions and experiences though.

Morning guys,

I thought I would share my experience with WeeLee...

1. Registered a profile on WeeLee on 1 August 2018, and uploaded the required pics, and filled in the required info requested regarding my vehicle. I submitted this after 5 minutes of going through a hassle-free wizard on their site.

2. About 30 minutes after submitting my vehicle for a bid, I received a call from a WeeLee representative, who confirmed my car info, and advised that my vehicle would be posted for auction on 2 August from 8am to 4pm. He advised that the busiest bid time would likely occur between 3pm and 4pm as dealerships fight over the vehicle :)

3. Sure enough, at 8am the vehicle was posted to auction, and I received an email with the login URL and password, so that I could view the bids live. You do not see any dealership info, however you see a corresponding dealership number and the amount they have bid. It starts at R0, and as each dealership bids an amount, it increments, and always shows the top offer.

4. By 4pm the bids were finalised and the highest offer made was sent via email. This was also followed up by a courtesy call from WeeLee. At this point, you have 24hrs to accept the highest offer. Obviously I was mulling over what to do, and the offer I received was by far the best received. It was much more than:
- 15k more than the dealership where I originally purchased the vehicle
- Almost 30K more than the highest offer from HiCarByeCar
- 3k more than WeBuyCars - but still subject to inspection and possible deductions on the offer

5. So Friday comes, I have mulled over it and considered all avenues, and decided that I was not up for a private sale in terms of risking theft etc etc, so I executed on the WeeLee offer and accepted the offer made. Within 10 minutes of doing so, I received an SMS from the dealership whose offer I accepted, and it clearly stated all documents that I needed to supply in the event that the vehicle was financed or not. At this point I arranged to meet the dealer the following day (Saturday morning, 4 August).

6. I was asked to send through a copy of the NATIS doc (as my car had already been settled), a copy of my ID as well as my bank details - this was to streamline the process on the dealership side to have the docs ready when I arrived the following day. All was sent through, and I proceeded to the dealership on the Saturday.

7. Arrived, was greeted by the owner, and was taken straight to the office to confirm all details on the sale. I was then asked to show them the vehicle, and they inspected it and confirmed that all I had disclosed in the WeeLee wizard was true and accurate. At this point, the owner was extremely happy that I had not duped him in any way, and invited me into his office to finalise the agreement. He signed the slae agreement, as did I, asked me to sign a tax form for his business to prove the sale for tax purposes, and supplied me a copy of this as well as a receipt. He then proceeded to log into his business account and paid me there on the spot. With it being different banks and a weekend, my money only cleared today (7 August), but I recieved the proof of payment and all receipts.

8. I handed the original NATIS doc over, the keys and the spare, and left on my way to drown my sorrows at the pub.

Was I dubious at first - yes
Would I go through this process again - yes

My car was sold in less than a week, and I got more than I bargained for at the end.

Thanks for the full review.

Morning guys,

Awesome. Thanks for the review.

Glad you managed to make a final deal.

Like I said before. Was very happy and surprised by the Weelee part of the deal. Website, loading vehicle, bidding, communication etc... Just my luck that I got a dealer who wouldn't play ball as well.

Did eventually sell privately quite easily because my price was good. Guy actually flew up from PE to buy and drove it back.

When did you hand over the keys and everything else? At the same time he made payment or after it cleared?

So can you remove your car from weelee if you not interested in selling on there or its sold privately ?

Think once it is accepted and placed for auction you can not remove it.

But you can simply ignore the offers received when the auction is done. No obligation to accept any offers. And once the offer expires the listing is also removed.

I simply ignored the offers 2nd time round when it was way lower. And went on to sold privately.

Hi Guys,

So I loaded my car on Weelee the other day 10/10/18. About 24 hours later I was sent an e-mail from a client liaison advising me to sell my car privately. There was no indication of whether my car would go through the auction process. I inquired about this but still have not heard back from the guy (another 24 hours later).

Overall, I am very disappointed in the service and feel that they have not done what they advertise.

Would recommend not wasting your time

Loaded car on Wednesday
Customer liaison dude phone the afternoon
Auction commenced yesterday
Papers signed and car picked up this morning

What year made and specs? How much did you end getting? Would like to compare with gumtree/auto trader etc.
