A BOB users experience. OP can decide for themselves but I rather use ebay amazon or takealot.
Other forumites welcome to provide their experiences.
Hi there
Can someone help to sell on takealot
I have tried several times but have failed
Is there somebody that will allow me to take over their selling account
Or help me get on
Will appreciate it
Yes they denied and at first they never respondedWhy/How did you fail?
Did they deny your application?
I agreeMore than 6 months has passed since my last post and nothing has changed- Take a Lot do not resolve queries ,honestly I have queried missing stocks and occurrences more than 6 months ago that are still not resolved.
(These matters drag on until eventually the manager you dealing with resigns or leaves and then youre back to square 1 with mailing in your queries for wa few weeks waiting for a repsonse and then the matter of involving a manager which is almost impossible because seller support managers DO NOT TAKE CALLS ! )
The pattern selling on take a lot is like this, Sell products, make profit, receive returns damaged by customers, lose profit, take a Lot lose your stocks, tickets opened, no responses from seller support for months, open more tickets, receive inadequate replies, half replies, Nobody knows whats going on there honestly. make more sales, make profit, Take a Lot lose stocks, fail to deliver to deliver your orders, charge you for it and the whole pattern repeats again!
You can call in and ask simple questions and the response will always be, we will investigate and revert back.
If left alone, so called "Investigations" will take months and you may very well never hear back unless you consistently email them and follow up.
The CEO and owners of Take a Lot should be ashamed of the manner in which they treat sellers and run their business. I highly recommend companies to rather build up their own customer base and deal directly with your customers.
Selling on Take a Lot is very high risk for a few reasons !! ...
1 Commissions are astronomical and seller support is dismal !
2 Returns take months to arrive back from them. There is no system or data available to sellers for them to see what returns have been deemed suitable to be returned to stock and what can be collected under "faulty/not what i ordered/as described etc"
3 Products get returned incomplete , user damaged, broken or incomplete and very often Take a lot simply dumps these items on you as a seller and you have to absorb the losses (if you can)
4 They are constantly losing my stocks and having to reimburse me. May be a huge theft problem?
5 Stocks arrive at the warehouse and are not loaded onto their system ! (Hence my products are not available to be sold) I was told I have to make sure that they load it onto their system.
6 I get the feeling they are far too busy to attend to sellers properly but the general attitude is to ignore support emails or eventually drag matters out so long making it more difficult to get problems resolved.
I urge other sellers to list there problems they are having and together we may approach them to better their platform for sellers, for themselves and the end consumer !
Many Sellers have to inflate their prices to cover the Takealot commissions and R40 shipping they charge to sellers which can be up to 15% + VAT...I don't like seeing Sold by xxx Fulfilled by Takealot
Many times they are a rip off e.g. ACA Liquors.
I returned about 10 products over 2 years due to them being faulty or partially damaged on delivery. I return products the very next day except electronics (which will take time to be faulty, if at all) of course. Only once I used changed my mind. I shop with TAL due to its liberal returns policy.TakeAlot Will Kill you with Return Items.
Customer returns lot , Not What I Order , Change My mind , Damage , Not As described .
And mostly Return are Box Damage , Item damage U can not sell them Again. And Seller ust pay - Delivery & Take Back returns and all this ..
Takealot Will finish Your Mostly profit In return Items ..
So basically your rant is that Takealot is a monopoly? I thought that was a well-known fact.To HELL WITH YOU TAKEALOT !
- TAKEALOT Operate with impunity !
- TAKEALOT Lose will your expensive stocks and leave you to prove that it was actually delivered when they sign for all stocks as "unchecked" so you have no leg to stand on !
- TAKEALOT Accept back retruns if the customer says its defective then according to TAkealot it is what the customer says it is. Even if they misused or broke the product You will NOT be paid for it !
- TAKEALOT Overcharge you selling fees and will simply close the tickets you created to get the billking error fixed !
- TAKEALOT Make so many mistakes and you as a seller are left to resolve the mistake often times after writing many emails and wasting YOUR TIME!
- TAKEALOT Can see what you sell a lot of on their webiste and will approach your suppliers and negotiate better pricing, buy up all the stocks and then sell it cheaper than you possibly can! Thus stealing your business from underneath you !
Running with unscrupulous business practices, screwing over the small businesses and taking all the glory when you are just a middle man scooping excorbatant fees off my sales !
Many Sellers have to inflate their prices to cover the Takealot commissions and R40 shipping they charge to sellers which can be up to 15% + VAT...
So a product that is R199 on Takealot you already know has been bumped up R40 and another R35 to cover the commission.
That means that the product could be found elsewhere for around R125.00
Whats worse is that when a customer buys 10 of the same item, say the size of matchbox, then Take a lot charge you 10 X R40 = R400 for delivery and send it all in 1 small box to the buyer and wham- they have made R400 off you and sent a box the size of a margarine tub to buyer!
They even combine multiple sellers goods into 1 box yet charging each seller a R40 fee !
They also simply slap a Takealot sticker on products and send them "As is" so everyone at the office will know what you bought.
Surprising someone with gifts can also be ruined as I bought something for my wife as a surprise and the surprise was on me when it arrived in its retail box and it was no longer a surprise !
I have been informed by multipple TakeaLot sellers that they are constantly hassled with erroneous false short supplies when supplying Take a Lot:I concur with 1,2,3 and not really 4,5,6 as well. I have had a shipment done to them where for example I send 10 units, they say they only got 9, I'm pretty damn sure I sent 10 but what can you do?
Their processes around getting products listed, doing shipments to them etc are all a nightmare.
Even when I listed items on BoB significantly cheaper I never had any sales on BoB. I think everyone's perception is probably that any "low rated" sellers must be scammers there. I had decent sales on Takealot though versus nothing on BoB for the exact same thing but cheaper.
Then there's their returns... I've had them accept stuff for a return from a customer in the most disgusting conditions I've ever seen (eg a customer buys, uses, returns 6 months later all dirty etc and gets a full refund). Meanwhile you sit having now lost out on the initial fees they charge, no stock (no way you can sell it), no money (they reverse the initial sale), and an extra charge for processing the return so on a low cost item you've lost 2* the item selling price. Then there's also some returns where the customer returns it because it doesn't work or something, then you get it back, try it and it works perfectly, but now it's out of the packaging etc.
