Selling on Takealot

Hi,
Does anyone on here have experience with becoming a seller on takealot.com
How does it work?
Is it easy to set up, how good are they at paying out, do they have minimum stock quantities etc
I am looking into maybe selling some goods on there, but would be good to get some feedback firsthand.

I have sold on takealot.com before.

It is easy to setup . Pay out was every 3 days if remember correctly. No min stock required of your product.

Just remember they take quite bit of markup and they charge you if client returns a product!

I stopped selling on takealot ,because the charges got to much to make it worth while.
 
You need a minimum of 30 items if i'm not mistaken

I currently have two products with them.
The sign up process is fairly painless and You access everything via the dashboard.
They charge a R25 delivery fee and also 10% of item.
They have also brought in storage fees, it's R7.50 per item per month.
If you want stock in jhb and cpt you pay for courier fees to the warehouse

When did you list with them?

I have reason to believe that you need minimum 30 different products. Maybe its different for every category(Books - Toys)
 
Cost of own ecommerce site and storage? Also attracting traffic to ecommerce site.
Its worth cost if major items otherwise cheaper to use existing sites like takealot or ebay.

OP - any interest in ebay? Bigger market and a lot of south africans buy from ebay.

Started in May.

You don't even need to carry a minimum stock as you can use the lead time option.

Isn't international shipping really expensive?

If south african buyers its local shipping. As for overseas its hardly expensive for them. Also does the aramex AGS work only for shipping in (think limited to shipping in) or for shipping out as well?
 
Could also limit ebay shipping to south africa (not sure if allowed).
If target south africans expensive overseas shipping irrelevant. If willing to pay shipping great, if not so what as target audience/market RSA?

The reason I use take a lot is that our business isn't set up to handle single orders.

I rather dump couple of hundred units at the warehouse and let them take care of the rest.
 
Thanks all for the info, it's good to have some first hand feedback.

I haven't thought about the ebay route purely because I didn't think that many South African's shop on there - will take a look at it.
What about bid or buy in SA?

I would probably try setting up my own ecommerce store, but because of the numbers buying on Take alot I think it makes sense to sell on there too.
 
Bidorbuy - personally dont bother because
1. Overpriced in my view
2. Shipping options tend to be a ripoff in my view (especially when its a bid option)
3. Limited goods
4. Sometimes cheaper and quicker to import yourself

I am not sure why you say it is pointless? If the OP wants to sell, he/she defines pretty much everything. Granted, some sellers define high shipping costs (but in turn don't really sell), but our reach on bidorbuy is far greater than Takealot (and more flexible as you can do auctions, fixed price and classifieds, provide make-an-offer functionality and much more)

While Takealot might make some aspects easier, in the long run you are sacrificing a lot of revenue whereas you can have the same managed via a multi-channel solution which already provides you with payment processing, fulfilment (and warehousing if you pick someone like ParcelNinja).

Payouts can be arranged daily, fees are only incurred when sales happen. All popular payment options are supported.
 
A BOB users experience. OP can decide for themselves but I rather use ebay amazon or takealot.

Other forumites welcome to provide their experiences.

Wait - how? What category?
I tried registering twice - and I got declined because:
1) I do not carry stock
2) I do not have less than 30 product types (not 30 items).
