Teleforge Senior VOIP engineer

Main purpose of the Job

The technical division in Johannesburg has a vacancy for a VOIP System Engineer that will be reporting to the Technical Manager and will perform day-to-day administration and management of the Linux based systems and VOIP platforms that are deployed within the core infrastructure located in Midrand, Johannesburg.

Job Outputs

• Day-to-day operational support of VOIP platforms.
• Management of VOIP platforms for critical services.
• Troubleshooting and problem solving of calls, emails and skype support.
• Platform and billing administration.
• Capacity planning of related systems.
• Escalation of critical outages to direct line manager.
• Deployment, upgrading, monitoring and administration of Teleforge core VOIP Infrastructures.
• Patching of OS and applications as per Best Practices.
• Disaster recovery planning and execution.
• Generation and analysis of SLA reports.

Qualifications and Experience

• 3 year B.Sc. Computer Science or equivalent qualification advantageous
• 5+ years in the Internet Industry with technical support and trouble-shooting experience
Minimum 24 months experience with VOIP Infrastructure administration in a multi-server Linux environment (in various stages i.e. development, test and production)
• Thorough experience with FreeBSD and RedHat Server Architectures/RedHat based Linux distributions (Fedora/Centos)
• Thorough experience on VOIP platforms and troubleshooting.
Minimum 24 months experience with VOIP (installation, maintenance, configuration, troubleshooting and optimization)
• Competent in writing scripts (Bash, PERL, Shell, MySQL) advantageous
• Solid working experience in billing environments and reporting.
• Solid working experience with standard system and internet services and protocols such as: FTP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSL, HTTP/S and Squid Proxy Servers and SIP Protocols.
• Excellent understanding of Internet technologies, voice services and the associate infrastructures.
• Understanding/knowledge of server hardware and SAN storage devices, VOIP gateways, soft phones, Asterisk, FreePBX and other PBX hardware.
• Excellent knowledge of server security/firewalling of voice networks.
• Implementation of monitoring services and using it to its full advantage (Nagios, Cacti, Icinga, etc)
• Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of operating systems and services such as: DNS Servers, VoIP billing engines (PortaBilling, A2Billing, ECN Albatross) are beneficial.
• Understanding of network design concepts and protocols
• Familiarity with administration of servers hosting MySQL databases advantageous
• Willing to work after hours and perform scheduled change controls within the change control window period
• Willing to do standby 24/7 and callouts

Other requirements

• Must have Grade 12 with university exemption
• No criminal record
• Must be South African (no foreigners please!)
• Must have valid drivers license
• Must have own car


Salary

Negotiable and will be based on market rates.
