Sentech dead yet?

Can you imagine? Sentech had a couple of years head start and seemingly bottomless pockets to build a national wireless Internet infrastructure. And despite this, it managed to cock it all up. Which is why Government must not get involved in what should be a private sector initiative.

“This is unfortunate, considering the success of phase one and two,” said Sentech CEO Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane."

Anyone know what credentials she has?

I used Sentech for many years... about 4 I think... never had any problems. Guess I got lucky or something.

Anyways, I moved to an area where there is no Sentech or iBurst signal, so kinda had to go ADSL.

I've got a 4mbit ADSL line now... and by God is it fekking nice! And stable. With next-to-no latency. Why the hell didn't I do this years ago! :D

Yep, until you experience the better internet, you don't think you need it. This country is deprived of true broadband, because everything is wireless, and nobody knows better. It's really pathetic.

Now try getting your cables stolen and being forced to go back to iBurst or the like, when you're a competitive gamer that I am, where low latency is the most important factor. Doesn't work!

Well I got rubbish speed outta sentech and that goes for their consistency as well...

I have the opposite, I have the max speeds my package is capable of and its very consistent. Very little down time, works like a bomb.... sadly because of the reputation of iburst and telkom I will only leave sentech when sentech leaves me.

What about screamer telecoms, from what i hear they have WiMax and WiFi, and are doing a really good job. apparently they even willing to put up new high sites in areas if they have enough interested parties.

Lol! I remember my old Sentech days. Can tell you the same old horror stories and how it eventually died, before my 2 year contract expired. :)
In contrast, I've been living in Hong Kong for the last 2 years. An 8m dsl line with unlimited bandwidth costs me the equivalent of R120/month, oh, and I get around 20 NowTV channels with it.
To order the service took one phone call and 3 days later a guy came to install it. Can't tell you about their support, since I've never needed it - it just works.
Of course, then we have free wireless internet just about everywhere. I usually sit on the ferry to and from work and surf the net on my laptop.
Anyway, it was fun reading that Sentech still exists!
