Sentech Responds to MyWireless Article

Every man for them selfs.

And thus was the reason for many of users supporting the Sentech offering. No cap noncence, now if Sentech has not been able to mange their offering propertly, i.e. if the soft restrictions where bound to 10,20, 40 gb respectivly to the speed of the offering, they should of been enforced!!!!!

Alowing a hadnfull of "powerusers" to degrade ur service is negligant... I hope nobody take ya to court..

Sorry sentech, your offering is not compettive, Caped 'broadband' @ 256kbts, @ R1 per MB ?? what planet are you on?????

Your technology is aging, your serveces are becoming un-comepetitive, time to move on ......

Untill WIMAX rollout, ADSL seems the beter offering price wise.. and one shant even need to compare the quality, speed and price.. specialy with the icasa regulation giving some shelter to the consumers in terms of carry over, unrestricted local bandwith, (hopefully some more price reductions on the way) etc..

It is pitty same law's do not apply to you sentec!!!!!

Hay you chose to give up ur user base.. as all those non "powerusers" will discover iburst and other 3g players.. and you will live of goverment coffins again.. huh wait that is partly my money damn.... njoy it than

In all fairnes, if the sentech management has made a bad buseness decion, admit it, resign and lets soemne more competent run the show!.... But wait it is the goverment institution.. that dont happend there.. oh I guess youll get biger title, more money and soem other job to FRAK UP.....

Well done..

That'll be the last straw then.

Anyone wants to buy my modem? Send me a PM. I'm switching to ADSL.

Cheers.

Sentech made the decision for the benefit of the broader base of Classic customers.
If us not-so-powerful-bandwidth-hungry Classic users were unhappy with the package, we would've moved to Flexi ourselves. Fortunately most of us could do the maths and saw Flexi for the rip-off it was and still is. They left us out-of-contract users no choice...either move to Flexi or move on. No "You can stay on Classic, but you'll pay if exceeding the soft cap" as per the existing contract users, who will be faced with the same problem when they get to the end of their contracts.

Having been with Sentech since April 2004 and having seen them hiding their incompetence behind periodical "power-user" statements, I chose to move on....good bye and good riddance

Everybody seems to forget the key reason for high bandwidth costs:

TELKOM

If Telkom had a decently priced ADSL product with decent support, there would not have been room for Sentech or iBurst in the market.

I am so glad I moved on a LONG time ago. I was part of the first sentech walkout. Fought my way out of that insane contract and moved to adsl. Good luck to all that are still stuck with sentech, my the gods of broadband be with you...

Again, Sentech compares the rates they found to GPRS cellphone data rates and not the rates of a true ISP.

They are so out of place in terms of marketing and research in this field it isn't even funny. If I didn't meet them personally, I would have said that the decisions were made by a bunch of monkies pulling random pricing out of a hat.

Unfortunately the bandwidth Sentech has at their disposal is at their own mercy. They don't use Telkom FYI. They may pay Telkom for the physical line carrying their data to their upstream provider, but their upstream provider is not Telkom (haven't kept abreast of who they switch to etc)

But their upstream provider pays Telkom. True. But yea, thats up for debate. FYI, Sentech routes their international downloads via their satelite array (much like IS does) and only uses a land based line for upstream requirements.

They have more than enough cheap bandwidth. They keep comparing their products with that of things totally unrelated. For instance, when they launched, they compared their product's pricing (this is what their researched was based on) on ANALOGUE DIALUP. This is when ADSL was available in this country for at least 4 years!

Now they're comparing their price PER MEG to GPRS data price per meg which you'll only get FROM CELLPHONES.

Here's a novel idea. How about comparing yourselves with Telkom's broadband offerings? Hell, with their pricing you'll make alot more profit and yet seem the cheapest.

Monkies...

Users who are in a contract have the option to continue with their present contract, on the proviso that they keep under the soft limits of 10, 20 and 40GB for the standard, professional and premium products, respectively, but should they wish to exceed these limits, they can do so and pay 50c an additional megabyte thereafter.

This rate is the lowest out of a bundle of rates by any competitor that offers an option for users to purchase additional data per megabyte.
Erm. BULLSH!T Sentech. Web Africa: R70 per GIG = ~ R0.07 per meg.
iBurst out of bundle top up ranges between R0.22c and R0.14 per meg.

 WTF must they lie?

There is no other wireless broadband provider in the market offering an “eat all you can” service, because of the costs of running such a service. While some users may feel indignant because they are paying for their Classic product, they have to understand that the total Classic user base’s monthly subscriptions do not cover the costs of the bandwidth they are consuming.

I think this is a half truth in the sense that he makes it sound sas though the mere usage of the data that you are allocated, be it 10,20 or 40 gig, is the reaon the product has become unsustainable.

If that is the reason, why then did they offer the service in the first place ? Could it be that Sentech has not met their sales target ?
Isn't their total product in terms of the package the levels of service and bad communication the real reason for their product not peforming ?

If it is the overusage of allocated data that is at fault then surely a HARD CAP would have been a reasonable alternative ?

They're just idiots, plain and simple... Monkies as you guys seem to refer to them...

They should have just hardcapped all the "power" users... Besides, i think the majority of people just liked the fact that they didnt have to worry about being charged for going over some dumb limit. I mean, honestly, even some stupid little baboon in the middle of the flipping jungle would have found a COMPROMISE instead of just saying f**k off to all the "power" users.

As soon as my contract finishes, i'm going to adsl, i don't care about how bad telkom is... At least they're dishonest in the first place, unlike sentech that APPEARS honest but then backstabs you like this, just cause it isn't working out for them!!

hehehe, reminds me of a conversation on why nice guys finish last but that for a different thread, on a different forum

And i did a little math and i worked out on the lowest 10gig package from sentech with the soft cap, you could actually get like approx 30 gigs per month easy :)

30 + 10 = 40
40 / 2 = 20 Gigs

Why not just hardcap at 20gigs? Its a compromise, and most people would be happy about it... And do similar things for the bigger packages...

Or hey, an even better idea... How bout they still soft cap you at 10gigs, then let you go at 64k until you get to your 20 gigs? I mean, the amount of different compromises is just huge...

I dont think they want to mess up with the bandwidth prioritising software after going thru what they went through last year.

It is sad that this is happening. The reality is that the current sentech offerings are no longer competitive. 2 years ago they were still worthwhile but with all the new competitors out there offering better speeds, reliability, uptime, coverage etc, I no longer see any reason to remain a subscriber. That is the bottom line. So if you need an IBurst connection - give us a call. We are already helping all our MyWireless customers out - we will gladly assist any others!

Sentech is another argument against goverment involvement in Telecoms...build RDP houses in veld and leave real business to the private sector
