Sentech Responds to MyWireless Article

Bah @ sentech. i'll use my alooted gigs as i want to,at max speed possible. thanks goodness they don't have cov in my area.might have been stuck with their crap. sigh.....adsl here i come

It is sad that this is happening. The reality is that the current sentech offerings are no longer competitive. 2 years ago they were still worthwhile but with all the new competitors out there offering better speeds, reliability, uptime, coverage etc, I no longer see any reason to remain a subscriber. That is the bottom line. So if you need an IBurst connection - give us a call. We are already helping all our MyWireless customers out - we will gladly assist any others!

Then it's time to amend your homepage....wonder if that rosy statement from Brigette C. Erdman sing the praises of the MyWi offering still applies :D

What's the lowest cost alternative?

Seeing that I may be forced to abandon Sentech, what are my alternatives? I am not a power user and stay well within the soft cap limits of the 128 K package. Speed is not a major issue for me, but I want my connection always on, I want it wireless, reliable and as cheap as possible. Is there really anything out there better than what I'm getting now (in Johannesburg) ie up to 10Gb for R500 on a monthly contract?

Serious question, fellers.

You could try the guys at WebIntact (GWI). They might be able to let you trail the product. The speed was an issue for me, so I went iBurst

Thanks for the enquiry. Below is a bit about the various packages available.

With regards to the packages, we have three that are available. They are the 128k package for R350 per month with 5 email addresses and the service is uncapped. The second is a R550-00, 192k package with 10 email addresses and uncapped and the last one is a R850-00, 256k package with 10 email addresses and uncapped. The package amount includes the ISP fees and there are also no hidden costs.

Sentech is jealous that cellphone service providers can ask up to R2/meg. There is just one little catch that sentech might have forgotten about - you actually need customers to get an income.

Wait a minute, so for 85% it is cheaper to switch to Flexi. Correct me if I am wrong, but cheaper must be Flexi less than 1 gig per month. Which means that 85% of their customers were paying for a service and not using it. Thats pretty nice. And yet they keep moaning about the small percentage of abusers.

See, this is where Sentech totally screwed themselves over.

How can you offer honey and not expect to attract bears? (no not bees you simpletons, bees make honey, duhr)

So the same principle applies. How can you offer an uncapped internet service and not expect people to use it to the max?

Thats like lining your wallet with R200 notes and putting it on a busy intersection at a street, and then be suprised someone actually took it....

I got the sentech call yesterday

Yesterday I got the call for a customer dis-service agent telling me that I could either pay R 1900 for a 10Gb capped Sentech account or leave the service.

She seemed to be pushing more for me to leave to service, so I obliged.
There's no chance of me paying triple my current payment for the same crappy service, slow speeds, and 1/3rd of the bandwith.

My brother is visiting me from Oz, where he's paying a whole AUS $ 15 (about R 80) for ADSL - real ADSL, not Telkom's version.

Only in S. Africa does progress mean going backwards..........

Yeah... i got the call too... She kept on saying "yes it's more expensive, but it's better"...

I don't really see any sense in this...as it's more expensive and I've got half (10Gb vs 20gb I had on 256 package) the cap?????..

..."yes sir... but the new service is better..."

(oh wait, did I just try to make sense out of this... doh!)...

Well... I'm out of SA now... but as soon as I get back I'll see what my options are... hopefully by then, GTS has BPL in my area. :D
