Sentech Tower "OPTIMIZATION" - Bye Bye signal

regardtv, my post was not specifically aimed at you, but general.
Our objective is to cover the whole of Gauteng but its very difficult because everything is spread apart in pockets, not like Durban or other cities where everything is basically in one place, so very carefull planning has to go into the positioning of towers.

The only towers that are now VERY strong (after Sentech adjustments) are tower 22/102 in Fourways - FAR more than 6km's away.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
Thats funny, I live in Lonehill, 3Km from 102, and 2km from 22.
borrowed a modem for testing, after hearing all the innovations with this mysterious tower 22.
In my house, I get no coverage.
On the roof , I see tower 66, with 4 bars, +20% signal.
But when attempting connection : the remote comp did not respond.

Could this be the allendale/midrand tower, and why do I have to see it, blocking the rest of the plentiful signal in my hood.

66 ? ... Mmm, best of my knowledge that's Hyde Park ... then again as users we're the last to know about towers, their locations and their numbering [8D]

do you know EXACTLY where Tower 22 is ? ... I'd love to get myself an accurate distance estimate.

The antenna people are hopefully coming to test my signal and the last thing I want is to spend more hard earned cash only to loose signal again in a couple of weeks time due to changes.

Good for optimisation. and hip hip hooray for those who can connect faster than a speeding bulllet...

what happens to the people who cant connect now? And have a contract going which they cant get out of because they already said they do have signal and everything is great, only to have their signal dissapear due to no fault of their own.

I think Agent Smith needs to be called in. The one needs his ass kicked.

plenty more happy customers, even if it means the tower is a bit less efficient.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
"Less efficient"... yes by about 40%
Extended range requires more bandwidth.
Extended range destabilises the syncs causing serious spiking.
Extended range has slower download speeds.
Extended range causes very serious no connection problems (currently effecting many people - about 3 times the Sentech MyWireless forum members).
Woosh in NewZealand almost went bankrupt because of this exact same problem - today they cannot give their modems away.

Extended range is for farming communities who are several kilometers apart and are only to happy to have an Internet connection and not worried about the zillion things city people demand.

No, extended range in a built up enviroment is not option.

Already people on this forum are starting to notice an improved connection although in several cases their signal strength has dropped.

Granted there are those that will loose signal altogether, but will be covered by a Tower in Phase II and Sentech will work with these people. Fortunately there are only a few of them.

methinks sentech is wooshing on dangerous ground. I used to have connectivity since Feb 04 with Zone Locator indicated Good signal that's why I cancelled my working telkom ISDN to switch to sentech. Now I have no connectivity, no response from the call center and Zone locator tells me I have No Coverage. Breach of contract if you ask me.[V][V][V][V][V]

I'm in the same boat, except the zone locator says "Partial". But I still can't connect. [:(]

It would seem to me, after reading this forum for about 2 months now, that you are all actually stil Beta-testers for Sentech, and even pay for the *privilege*.

No wonder Telkom doesn't feel the need to better their service. They still have no competition.

If you cannot connect, and feel you want to drop the contract.
Then talk to them. I dont think the result will be bad

If it is, phone me, I'll get you out of it if you really need to

At least the ZoneLocator is updated ;-)

If just had Sentech send out a 3rd party antenna installer.. and still no signal...

I wonder how many people have been affected by this type of outage ?

Even if we can cancel the contract we're still out of pocket on the R500 activation;R70 delivery;ancillaries such as Ethernet Cable-R250;Pigtail R185;Patch:R250....

As I understand it Casper Cassidy (Sentech head office) is the person to speak to relating this. Maybe he can assist ?

Well, in my opinion you have been deceived, or ripped off.
Unless they say they will fix it.

Have you phoned them?
If not, what you doing here?
Phone them, tell them youre situation, cry a bit, plead.
And then ask them what they gonna do.
I doubt they are going to give you bad news.

Hehehe

<b>"TrXtR" for comedian of the year ;-)</b>

I've been in daily contact with them since last week wednesday - much to their frustration and dismay.

Every time I've tried to ask pointed questions concerning how to resolve/fix things I get redirected to someone else ...

Will keep you posted.

UPDATE FROM SENTECH:

At last my smoke signals have been noticed by someone who can answer back without having to relay the signals via PutSonderWater.

As it turns out I should definitely be able to connect to Tower12. What ever was done to Tower12 last week wednesday may have been "overdone"...

I hope to gain additional feedback tomorrow.

Lets see how things progress from here ;-)

Yes, lots of times, I now have their stupid "hold-on" tune stuck in my head.....
Phone them, tell them youre situation, cry a bit, plead.
[:(]
I cried, I plead, I begged, I did everything short of sucking .....

I finally after threatening with lawyers got Casper's phone number and he said that they are trying to get it resolved he will call me back later. I called him again at 17:45, 5 Hours after I first spoke to him because I hadn't heard from them. I then got the excuse that they sent some ppl out with high gain antennas and he hadn't heard anything and that's why he didn't phone me. Well I will give them until tomorrow 12:00 and then I will demand cancelling of the contract.
[:(!]

Well I will answer this by tomorrow 12:00???[?][?]

Can't say I agree with you. This whole Sentech is the new boy on the block and we should expect teething problems is getting old now.

There is no difference between a monopoly and a duopoly. I pay good money I expect good service. If MyWireless was free I would agree wholeheartedly but its not so I don't.

The fact that we have been suffering under Telkom is one thing but I could cancel my Telkom connection and not use their service with less than a months notice. Sentech makes you sign 24 month contract and yes it was my choice to sign but if I knew what I know now I would have kept my Telkom ISDN with Telkom internet.

Hey

This "optimization" so they call it, is a load of sh*t. I was getting 20% signal to Mintek tower now i cant connect to any tower[:(!]. Does anybody know when they ment to "return" to how it was. [V]

Dr4k

Just for interest's sake.. how far are you from that particular tower? I mean, if you are more than 5.7km then they have a case. Although with 20% I would have to guess that you are within 3.5km so if you get nothing at all now then that is unfair. Hell, if you had 20% and they halved your signal by doubling your "effective" distance (I know its not linear but..) then 10% should still connect you. Better complain since it sounds like they must have disabled your particular node/panel since you should still get *some* signal..

do you really get nothing? as in 0%?

While reading around on http://www.mauiskyfiber.com I noticed an interesting note that they claim their service runs up to 7 miles... further investigation indicates that this is supposedly on their "short range" mode ... now 7 miles translates to about 11km if I'm not mistaken.... mmmm.....mmmmm

Not possible with our current software - we tried it and at exactly 6 ks it dies - cannot logon.
There is new software which will go in once this Pretoria problem is solved and it extends the range to 6.5 km - and this is the latest software just arrived from IPWireless.
