Sentech Tower "OPTIMIZATION" - Bye Bye signal

That's a though one...

I don't think anyone can answer that one except Sentech

I don't presume to have ANY official input from them. They do at least seem willing to make a best effort - that is the best anyone can hope for. I just have to hope that this is "good enough" for the majority of us ;-)

R - holding thumbs --- will see 2night.

Well - I have been very happy with sentech from the moment it arrived.

It was GETTING it that was such a big hassle!

R - thanks for keeping Sentech on their toes. We need people to keep these corporate monsters honest and fair.

R - I see you're at 46 deg, and the eastern Radiokop antenna should have full coverage down to the 60 degree range. So with dish you may just be able to amplify the signal that leaks enough.

Nic,

Interesting you should mention that.

In chatting to one of the propeller heads (meant as a compliment [:D]) I think that the nodeB's on that tower may not be exactly as indicated on ProASM's list.

According to him the nodeB does not cover me at all. The VERY weak signal I pick up on 82 is being bounced from the LittleFalls area and as such is almost 14km old by the time it gets to me.

I'll drive down and have a proper look over the weekend hopefully.

I must admit that I'm not that clued up on Maxwell's equations, but I'm pretty certain that the only way to this could be possible if someone is holding up a large (200m x 200m) metal plate at LittleFalls. And then it will be a damn coincidence that the signal is infact bounced toward you.

A small (relative to the wavelength) flat reflective surface will not act as a mirror, but as a new point source. (Similar to the single and double split experiments for light). So, even though the energy has reasonable density when it hits the small surface 7 odd km away, it gets spread out over such a large area by the time it reaches R that it is much too weak.

1. Action: Sentech decides to **** around with a system that has been working.
2. Result: People cancel their contracts.

QED:
Sentech's MyWireless gets an even ****tier name than Telkom, since at least, with a Telkom connection there's stuff they can do to sort it out.

Disgusting.

OH BABY

Don't know if this is for good but it would seem that MORE optimizations have been done ;-)

I'm BACK !
Fortunately, I still have a signal. Just: 2%. I can connect after several tries, but at least it stays connected. I have signal only within about 50cm of the modem's spot, on top of my monitor. The zone locator (which showed "Partial now, Good 1st quarter" when I signed up now shows "No signal, partial Q2, partial Q3".

When we got home yesterday, signal disappeared, then suddenly was back to 3 dots, even 4 a few times. Dunno what was changed, but I'm happy.

I wish I had better signal, but ja, i to am the unlucky bunny with next to no signal

hoping to have more some time.

Heya Tad,

Which area are you in ? Do you have an external antenna ?
