Hi everyone, so you guys helped alot with the trip to France a 3 years back this year we off to Serbia. My wife has a congress that side and we use it as an opportunity to see other countries we typically would not have gone to. it will be in early October. Also we will be in Belgrade for 3 days. and in Serbia around 2 weeks

From my initial research I need a VISA only R1k so not too bad. Flights around R13k I guess the new norm. I see they use the Dinar (I have an FNB global card not sure how it plays with this or if I should just use a credit card?) Airbnb is dirt cheap we can can stay in pretty nice places for about 400-600 rand a night. Groceries are same price if not cheaper from what I can see.

In short any tips tricks travel accommodation must sees etc We def dont mind travelling to another region after Belgrade if there are any recommendations. We do love hiking too so wouldnt mind any recommendations on this either

Subscribed to thread. Oh Wow, Serbia - I do not know of anyone who has been to Serbia. If you can, please post some experiences of your trip.
Ill def share my experience afterwards but some upfront insights would be great. So far looked at these vids.

the best thing so far from what I can see is its a very underrated European destination and VERY cheap esp when comparing it with SA even let alone Europe.

I have just just started researching

Mini Russia
By careful selection of selective news articles, one could really paint any country with any brush really. USA - gun violence - so no go zone. Ukraine - Nazis - so can't go. Pakistan - Osama bin laden's abode - no go.

Seems as if I'm going to have to create the tips for the thread.

So updates so far.

1. Two week trip split into two. One week Serbia and second week turkey.
2. Booked flights with travel with investec. Trip was R5k cheaper than Turkish airlines and 10k cheaper than flight center. Also have us 50kg luggage allowance. I tried calling travel start it was useless. Waiting time was 30 plus minutes and hello Peter reviews were a massive red flag. So did not even try.
3. We added turkey to the mix as we haven't been there before and thought a week in Serbia is sufficient (work portion of trip).
4. Accommodation is dirt cheap, just booked a beautiful apartment R550 a night (would cost 2k easily here. With everything we need and perfect location too (I mean everything self check in washing machine newly renovated, balcony, great location decently sized etc) . Edt staying in Belgrade.

I think that's all updates so far. Watching Turkish and serbia what to do and food tour videos at the moment for ideas.

Edt booking visa this week

Here we go!

Serbia seems best traveled with by car.

Looking at using Firefly for car rentals. Also making sure my topped up insurance with Bright covers that nasty excess.

No need to take the R2000 top up here!

Looks like a VW up is nice to zip around the place and is light on petrol (Serbia is R29 a l thanks SA for prepping me for these prices).

Ill just pop updates into the thread as I go along.

Also flying with Qatar

Current Itinerary (1-16Oct)
1-9 Oct Belgrade
Rest TBD

Using this for tips

With the Ottoman influence Turkish food abounds this side - so I can still get my fix!
