Service shocker

Consider yourself lucky. My car has a dual-mass flywheel which can't be skimmed, so it has to be replaced at clutch changes; the last clutch job came to R10500.

I'll top that with my clutch costing R14,700 last month - flywheel included.

WTF type of car do you drive?!?!

Ford Mondeo. Nothing unusual there; same thing with many modern clutches - Ford Focus, VW, Honda, BMW...

2006... your car might be out of its 3 year warranty.

I like this part:

One of the main reasons why I would never think of owning a Polo - everyone wants to steal them.

They got away with one of my friends polo's 1.4 2007

I took my 2006 1.4 Polo in for a 60K service yesterday at Lindsay Saker, and this what they quoted me:
There's the problem.

The worst service I have ever had in my entire life was at Lindsay Saker in Rivonia. Price rip-offs, not actually doing what they say they did, keeping car for a week to do something simple and not actually doing it at all but claiming they did SO MANY things, lies, etc etc etc

My car is not a VW , but I have a unique experience about service shocker ...so here it is

My car service center was negligent ! ,they let a huge black spider crawl its way into my back seats while my car was in for routine maintenance service.

unfortunately & luckily , haven't been naked in the back seats ;) - how can a person be lucky and unfortunate at the same time ?

my next car will be from a different manufacturer......

( great car ...,very good service personnel & quality workmanship .just the damn spider:twisted:..... a pest problem in the workshop )

I would just like to take this moment not to revel in your misfortune, but to point one serious psychological nuance out for you guys...NOT ONLY Alfa's BREAK, and that notion of its expensive to repair is obviously false just by looking the prices charged for VW's or Toyota's and xRapidx's honda!

I'm doing my cambelt service 20 000km's earlier in 3 weeks and the parts is going to cost me R3900 and I'll do it myself with a couple of mates on Saturday...IF, IF I were to take it to the stealers - 147 2.0 16v 1st cambelt service - R12 000/R8500/R9500. At independant machie's its the R3900 for parts + another R4000 for labour!

Doing it yourself with mates and braai and booze...priceless!

Ah - but there's a difference between breaking and needing to be serviced :D

When I need to service my Corolla, I do it myself. Fuel, oil and air filters, sparkplugs, new oil and brake pads (front) I can do. Not so comfortable doing rear pads atm.

But I get somebody to help when I need to service my CV boots, or replace my camshaft belt, it's always easier with somebody around.

I'll top that, clutch and flywheel for my car R28 000

I'll top that with needing another clutch for R14,700 6,000km later - so I'm on R29,400 :(

Busy waiting to hear why it went - but I suspect an installation fugger up.

I'll beat you ALL to it...my future car will have a OS GIKEN clutch - 8000 pounds!

R3900 DUDE! Pays to know ppl!

working on car comes first - then finito, drive the car to see if works...then comes whiskey or beer to end a hard day's work, then I'm hungry, then I normally eat...you don't get this???:wtf::whistle:

This makes me super scared as I have to buy my own car soon :/ Prolly 2nd hand with 100k to 200k milage on it argh. Does anyone know of some good, reliable mechanics that won't charge you an arm and a leg?

You shouldn't be scared of owning your own car. One thing you must remember, never ever accept the first quote you get for any repairs. Always, and I mean ALWAYS shop around for a good price. As far as the motoring industry goes, prices on 99% of car parts vary so much that spending a little time to shop around will save you thousands of rands in the end.

Oh god. I meant you say R3900 as if it's a bargain ;)

And then you make it sound like you're going to get your buddies, booze up and work on the car. Because you actually get sad people like that.
