Service shocker

I've heard that the cost to replace the clutch on a RS4 is in the region of R40k upwards.................sick

Nissan GT-R clutch is more than double that. Thing is the more expensive the car the more expensive the parts, have to compare apples with apples.

But a GTR is double the car?

What are you running costs on the S2000 - been wanting 1 for ages, just waiting for the right time!
whats the brake pads cost - i know on my 07 civic its like 8k for front and back!
also tyres? what you pay for 1? just replaced my 16" and paid over 1200 for 1

You shouldn't be scared of owning your own car. One thing you must remember, never ever accept the first quote you get for any repairs. Always, and I mean ALWAYS shop around for a good price. As far as the motoring industry goes, prices on 99% of car parts vary so much that spending a little time to shop around will save you thousands of rands in the end.

Ah thanks for the advice, I will def keep that in mind (^^)

Not sure - I stopped going OEM and upgrade each time - new Stage 1 discs and pads are around R5,000.

The S2000 has been hassle free - the only problems I've had are the clutch (its actually been in the shop for the past week, I'l upload a pic if 15min before it went) and the roof (which according to Honda is only meant to last five years).

Now tell me you don't want one?

Thats another topic alltogether. Maybe if you have a GP circuit in your back garden :D

You joke - I can hear the V8's at Killarney from my house.

8 k ? Eish !

I also have 07 civic and did the front brake pads on 45k km's. Cost me R1300.
What tyres did you put on? I also have to get new ones soon. And how many kms did you get on your tyres ?

Yeh - I just called Honda for a price on a clutch disc, R1,700 and 21 working days till arrival.

I can import one from the states for R1,400 and 10 working days.

Probably bought them at Honda.

The dealership fitted new brake pads when i took the car in for 45k service.

Why would it be a silly thing. I will let the dealership do everything as long as the car is still in warranty and in service plan. I don't wanna fit some aftermarket stuff and it backfires on my ass when they find it out.

IF i have a look here.

15k service donno i lost my invoice.
30k service would have cost me R1234.40
45k service would have cost me R1579.70 The front brake pads R1296.70 i paid myself.
60k service would have cost me R1464.58

So the cost does not look that bad untill now. Maybe things change once the mileage goes higher and the vehicle goes out of service plan.

When your car is under service/maintenance plan, that's the ONLY time you should take it to a stealership. As for aftermarket brake pads backfiring? I don't think so! Do you think Honda has fitted HONDA brand brakepads?

Cost of service (labour) for 10 year Hyundai R350, retail price of parts (plugs, oil, filters, front break pads) R670 =R1020

Lol, you will be amazed at how many people believe that. The concept that GUD, NGK, Champion, Ferrodo etc etc etc supply the parts to these guys (in boxes with Honda or whatever labels on them) is lost on them and they happily pay way more for the exact same parts.

When Honda was part of Mercedes in SA their parts were really cheap and it did not make sense to go buy them elsewhere. Only thing I did buy elsewhere at the time was Oil as they raped you on that and it was normal Castrol oil. Still remember having to buy a radiator which the dude at the counter told me to go get from Silverton for much cheaper as it's the same thing they supply, just in a different box.

Watch the type of aftermarket pads though; Ferodo, they're cool, but wait till you try Mecarm and the brakes squeak all the time.
