Good day all,

With regards to the session disconnects issue - we are aware of the problem and are working on resolving it as a matter of urgency.

Please post all feedback / comments regarding this issue in this thread so that we are able to track them effectively.

My session disconnects when any download start or when the speed goes roughly above 30KB/s. Everything was fine until saturday morning about 11am and the speeds was very good compared to earlier the week. I am in Gardens, Cape town.

Thanks Neotel Rep Guy,

Im in Midrand, I noticed this problem since Saturday (I was told by others that this problem has been actually happening since Friday night).

I tried it this morning, and same problem again.

With all due respect to you Rep, and I think I speak for all the irate users over this weekend - kindly as a matter of urgency comment on the following:

- What really happened this weekend? Was there an upgrade of some sort or some experiment? Or is Neotel just in the pain for pleasure business???
- Would we be able to successfully access the network from today i.e. dloads from RS or any dload in excess of 1meg? AND NO PLEASE DON'T TELL US THAT NEOTEL IS WORKING AT RESOLVING IT, WE WANT ANSWERS TODAY PLEASE.
- Would Neotel be employing knowledge staff over weekends in YOUR absence to explain to us should another catastrophe such as the one we've experienced ever occur again (I'm touching while I type this)?
- Would Neotel endevour to employ or engage technical staff to work over weekends for goodness sake PLEASE. This nonsense of no weekend technical staff is not on.

Please add to the above if I've omitted anything guys, I'm still a bit livid to think right now.

Thank you in advance Rep for your response, and again sorry to shoot the messanger :)

Pretoria - Same old story, the entire line went down for 20min around 09:30AM today and it seemed as if the disconnect issue was being worked out. It's still the same, i can't download more than 1MB without being disconnected.

Since this has beeng going on for the 3rd DAY !!!! surely there is some kind of compensation for users ?!?!??!?! a mere apology will only serve to annoy every single one of us even more. ( i'm not expecting a free month but surely some kind of gesture to Neotel users should be extended ??)

Hi all

I was actually looking to get Neotel Uncapped (the R999 offer)\

But after reading some horrific threads, and all this disconnects and poor speeds.

Howlong has this been going on, from what i can read its been months of problems.

Vredehoek/Cape Town area.

Reception is on 4 bars.

Disconnects been happening from 11pm'ish on Friday night.

Problem happens as soon as you do any sort of download;

• News servers
• Quake Live update
• Punkbuster update
• Download from FTP and others...

Speeds fly up to like 500KB/s and disconnect.

If you call Neotel customer care, they say there is a problem but can't say when it will be fixed, I phoned twice on Saturday.

I did upload photos to Flickr, did not disconnect but speeds were really slow, like 3KB/s

My girlfriend called me on Sunday evening so the phone part of the service still works with no problem.

Neotel Disconnections

Hi, I am in the alberton area, and have also been expriencing the same problem as everyone else (disconnects when data gets to about 1.5 Megs),

What really has been upsetting me is not the fact that there was a network outage (these can and will happen on any network), but the lack of knowledge from the call center staff, and the lack of an ETA for the problem to be fixed.

Steps that should have been taken:
1. An acknowledgment of the problem on the main neotel site, with a link to a technical explanation of what went wrong.
2. The ability to sign up to a temporary newsletter list, so that neotel could send us constant updates.
3. An explanation to the call center, so that when people phone in, they can be more descriptive and helpful (over the weekend they really sounded lost).

Problems will happen, its how you deal with them that determines the happiness of your customers

PS. One thing I did like though is even though the call center was probably flooded with calls over the weekend - it never took me more than seconds for my call to be answered.

I found a Temporary sulution for downloading

I have had the same probs as u guys im in randburg
anyway if you are using firefox or chrome the wat u can do is...

STEP 1. Bring up "CMD" then type "ping www.google.com -t"
STEP 2. Got to your browser download what u want and if u see something other then "Reply from x.x.x.x: bytes=32 time=xxxms TTL=xxx" then all u do is pause your download as soo as u see "Reply from x.x.x.x: bytes=32 time=xxxms TTL=xxx" again start the download

EDIT: I am 16 :)

Been experiencing the problem the whole weekend. Was a pain in the ass to figure it was neotel - i thought it was my router dropping the connection! But yeah, connecting drops pretty much every 30 seconds which makes youtubing / dloading anything impossible. The speeds were fine when it was connected - it was just disconnecting constantly. Couldnt check my RSSI since I have not been able to get past the "Insert Valid RUIM" error message.

What a PITA.

Same issue here, Robindale Randburg, all weekend.

Worse thing is I got the best speeds this weekend between disconnects, anything from 1 minute to 10 minutes,

My speed is usually 30kb/s max these days, and was hitting 70kb/s and then dropping connection.

I have just been informed that the problem has been resolved - please provide feedback to confirm.

Thank you.

Surprisingly enough this seems to be working for me. I opened up a DOS window and issued the ping command with the -t option and since then I've been able to download from Giganews at well over 100kB/s without a single disconnect. I've been going for over 15 minutes now. Every once in a while one of the ping requests time out, but the connection doesn't drop.

Maybe Neotel finally did something or maybe not. I'm too scared to suspend my download to do more detailed testing just in case the problem returns.

Edit: Oops. Didn't realise the rep had posted before I did. I really need to refresh my pages more often :)

It appears to be working.

What was the exact nature of the problem and what steps are being taken to make sure it doesn't happen again?

I think as a way of saying sorry... Neotel users should be allowed to do 200KB/s + for a few days... what you say Neotel rep? ;)

So far so good in PTA, downloaded 40MB and no disconnect yet....

Working my side as well, but I agree that some sort of explanation and assurances are warranted.
