Set-top box option

So, this means you still need a smart card, and the smart card is then deleted, leaving just the encryption keys for SABC and E-TV?

And I suppose you need to have been a DSTV subscriber beforehand?

My neighbour gets SABC and E-TV on his DSTV decoder (he switched off DSTV, but requested that they leave SABC and E-TV on). So, if you buy a DSTV decoder, a satellite dish and the necessary cable, all in all that will work out to less (for digital TV) than the SABC/ANC/Government offering? And most TV's can take the RCA video signal from the current DSTV decoders...

I smell a rat. Someone is gonna coin it from this *scam*

Its called Easy View and it costs R20 per month : http://www.dstv.com/main.aspx?ID=10578&s=6

HD Ready means that it can display what some call "HD" - aka 720 lines.

Full HD, as the tag implies, is real High Definition with 1080 lines - pretty much what we are used to on quality computer displays.

Regardsless of the screen dimensions the TVs can have numerous inputs as well as different tuner circuits like analog (PAL / SECAM / NTSC) or digital (DVB / ATSC).

thats not my point! whatever you buy you still need that crappy govermint box or dstv to get digital tv.

And if you do not have either of that then they should exemp you from having to pay a TV Lisence.

but your tv still have a tuner in so it's able to receive analog signals therefore you need a license

So when will we know what the story is about these boxes... mmm I think they not going to have them ready and do like MTN oh we have got the signal oh but for some reason no one has a receiver to get it oh sorry.

If you been following myadsl closely you would've realised that there was an announcement some time ago which stated that stb's won't be available for some time while tests were still being conducted.
