Hi everybody

I'm trying to setup 3 serial ports on a pc that is used for irrigation control. These ports would switch pumps on /off and communicate with radios, controlling the irrigation proses.

Normally this is done with 2 ports, but in this case it must be 3.

The pc run on Win98 and the Irrigation software works in Dos.

It will only recognize the 4 main com ports and only if it is reported by the bios.

Problem.

There are 2 on-board serial 9 pin connectors that all 4 ports.

There is a 25 pin rs-232 ISA serial card installed. The 3E8 / irq 4 address is assigned to this card. there is a set of 8 on / off switches. I believe this would be to change the com address.

When both the on-board serial ports are enabled, the ISA card does not communicate with the software.

If I disable the one on-board serial port, the remaining on-board com port work, giving me 1 x com port. The ISA will also work on the mentioned address, but then I need another port, which I do not get, because I disabled it

I then removed it after trying to setup the on-board com ports addresses in order to work with 3E8, but it does not work.

I replaced the isa card with a pci i/o card. 2 x serial ports on this card. Same story I can not activated all 6 cards at the same time and get 3 addresses out of them. As soon as I disable an on-board port, I disable the add on card as well.

In all instances, I also used the Debug command if the com ports were there, depending on my setup and everytime the ports showed as detected.

I hope I explained it properly.

Can somebody help.

Edit: Ok, made a mistake, there are switches. 8 of them, but I have no idea to change the com address of the card, if that is the problem.

No name on the isa card
