Hi fellow Saffa's

I'm currently in the UK ( and have been for 9 years now ) so excuse me if I get something wrong here.

Long story short, my parents are coming to the UK for a 2 month holiday. I would like to get them some internet connectivity to Skype us so they can see my ugly face. But being my parents they don't understand anything about the net.

So I have found them the MTN 2 gig deal for R99, and I was going to get them a Huawei E367 dongle and a TP-Link TL-MR3220 150Mbps 3G/4G Wireless N CABLE Router.

My questions are, What kind off setting are needed to enable the dongle to get onto the internet with Mtn, if anyone else is using their own router, can you tell me if the router needs any configuration for the dongle. I have never used a dongle so I am not sure how the two tie up.

I understand networking so I should be ok, but as I do not have the sim with me, I want to set it all up, so when they get back they just have to pop in the sim and away it goes.

Thanks in advance people!

In terms of setting up, just put the sim in the modem, put the modem in the router, connect to the router from your PC, run through the basic setup per the instruction manual of the router. You will need to put the APN in at some point, its either internet or MyMTN, maybe someone can clarify (I don't use MTN for my data)? Then the dial number *99# which is standard for SA networks. However, your rents would have to get the sim activated in SA first for it to actually work. Just be careful they arent over there for too long (>90 days as they then might deactivate the sim). Also make sure that roaming isnt enabled/don't use the sim in the UK or you might get a nasty bill for roaming data (something like R3000 a GB or something mad). Also check the signal where they live because if its bad, which it quite possibly is, you won't be doing any skyping..

Thanks for the info.

After receiving the router, I popped a dongle in, and it has international settings, including the main SA providers like 8Ta, Vodacom and so forth. I was really impressed.

It seems all I need to do is drop the sim in the dongle, drop the dongle into the router, and provided the network is as you want it ( SSID name and so forth ) it just works. Really impressed.

Thanks for the help again!
