I have about 1 to 2 gig (varies) per month of excess bandwidth and am thinking of setting up a localised hotspot, with download restrictions of course.

I know it is illegal. But from a few people I have spoken to, as long as I am not selling and they are connected without me knowing about it, then it should be okay. Won't name them here. Actually got the idea from them.

Has anyone tried "zonecd"?

Or what other software is available that preferably runs off windows. Can't be bothered to learn linux.

If jawug was geared up for sharing spare bandwidth, then this could also be the way to go.

we could arrange something

hi
our distro will be based on zonecd, although our preferred solution is a router with the linux firmware already burnt in..

would you like us to supply you with a zonecd for the meantime free of charge?
we can also provide a video -cd that shows how to set up your node.
feel free to drop me a mail at franss (a)t softstart (d)ot co (d)ot za

free wifi

where are you at " location " jhb , dbn , cape town

heya again, Robone.

http://rodent.za.net/files/ZoneCD_0.6-0.iso if you need the download.

Of course, Jawug is absolutely positioned to make use of spare bandwidth. In fact, our Northcliff highsite depends on it ;)

Once again, feel free to contact me via PM, or Cell, and let's talk about the options. There are also other options available, such us us sharing the same DSL account for local downloads (seeing as you have a WRT already) meaning you could probably save even more on your DSL account. As your location is quite close to my Rosebank transit node, there are probably a whole whackload of options available.

You cannot be bothered to learn Linux, yet I am, and am comfortable. Let's chat.
