I'm a total noob to this so please bare with me!

I am trying to set up my tenda 3G router... I have connected it to a power supply. Connected it to the laptop with LAN cable. Plugged in my 3G modem. I run the setup on te included cd. However it keeps saying connection failure!

Connect directly to the router through the browser by using the default ip address rather than the setup wizard

Ok so it gives me a list of ISPs. I choose "other". I set apn to "Internet" and dial "*99#. Other fields left blank.

It's says if the IP address is not "0.0.0.0" then configuration is succesful. However my ip is all zeroes and I cannot acces the Internet... If I connect the dongle to the px directly I can however access the Internet. So methinks the configuration settings I've entered are wrong...

Yes I have run through the setup wizard... The IP remains 0.0.0.0 afterwards and I cannot access the net.

I'm about to give up... The problem seems to be on the modem side.

I plug it in the pc, install the software... It all works fine, full coverage, net works. I disconnect, plug it into the router... Run the setup wizard, does not configure Internet. Plug the modem back into the pc to check and guess what, now it doesn't work... The software does not pick up the modem. Unless I reinstall. What am I doing wrong??

So when you plug the E173 into the router, what does the indicator do?
Flashing blue after a bit of green activity?

What does the Tenda System Tools\System log show?
USB Modem found or No USB modem found?
Anything else in the log to help?

Assuming your router IP is 192.168.1.1
Also try http://192.168.1.1/usbdongle.log

Use your router IP, if it is not the same as above.

Post the result of usbdongle.log

Thanks base1222, I'm about to kill myself here!

It flashes green for a bit and then blinks blue... The log says no USB dongle found.

Sometimes the Tenda can take a while to "find" the modem, so give it a few minutes before unplugging and giving up.

What model of Tenda router is this?
What is the firmware version?
