Is this even possible?

Basically I have my main PMS server with all our content on. Then I have a second machine that is only used for my kids and there movies and series.

In my old house they shared a room so just installed kodi connected to a tv and it worked fine.

I have now moved into my new house and the kids have their own rooms. I have rokus connected to there tvs and want to setup a plex server so they can watch their content via plex for roku.

Originally when I tried, it would pick up both plex servers and they could access all the "adult" content and for obvious reasons I don't want that.

Is it possible to have two plex servers running and I can choose which one they can access via the plex app on roku? Or any other way?

Currently we are using a LTE router as fibre will only be installed in my area at the end of the year. I also have wifi repeaters if that would help or can buy a new modem if needed. They don't have to access Netflix yet (as mentioned in LTE and only 100GBs a month) but if they could that be a bonus.

Please can someone more wiser let me know?

I know with Plex Pass you can control who see's what but you'd have to pay for that privilege.

Why not set up a separate network for the kid's rokus? Or just tell them they're not allowed to use the server with the adult stuff?

Yeah I thought with plex pass you could do this but don't have plex pass so was wondering if it possible to do it without.

I think it collects all the media in one spot so not easy to say which is what server.

How would I setup seperate networks and what would I need?

It would depend on the capabilities of your existing router. You might need to insert another one into the mix.

Currently have the Huawei B315s-936 (LTE router). Also have a tp-link N600 TD-W8980 and then also a Netgear N300 WiFi range extender.
Any of that work?

As mentioned, I don't mind purchasing new things as well.

I managed to do this without plex pass before, however, I had one Plex server running hosting both "adult" and "kid" content.

What you could also do is: Setup the Adult Plex and point it to the directory where the adult movies are only. The on the Kids Plex: Point that one to a folder or drive with only the Kids movies on. I know normally when you access the Plex Theater app you need the get a code before the system will sign in. So maybe try and create a second account for the other server and then only log into the Kids Roku with the Kids Plex Server code.

Hopefully this makes sense.

plex.JPG This is basically what I mean.

So by creating two accounts only link the one account to the Kids Roku

This.

I have Plex on multiple devices. Setup my mom's own Plex account on her device and shared my library. Now my "On Deck" only shows the shows I'm watching and no more worries if she's watched something and then it not showing up on deck.

Ahhhhh... So I can keep the two machines running as they currently are - then once I've installed plex on the kids server and created a seperate account, I just use the code from the kids server to connect to each roku and that way they will only access there stuff. That makes sense. Will give it a try and see how it goes.

Yeah, try it sorry I only have on Server at home and never actually played with it. But I think it should work it is at least less painfull way to find out and nothing else needs to be bought :) let us know what the outcome is.

I have no idea if this is for all Plex users or if it is just available to me because I have a Plex Pass but when you are in the WebUI if you click the icon in the top right, go to Users - Friends, it will allow you to invite friends to share your Plex server.

So if both kids have a email address you sign them up to Plex for free, invite them to your server and under the Friends settings you can limit them to certain libraries or age restrictions.

Edit: Just read you need a Plex Pass.

The other thing you can do when you have the two Plex servers running, on the adult one in the settings you can only allow your account to access the server by going to network and configuring:

List of networks that are allowed without auth

which works like this

Comma separated list of IP/netmask for networks that are allowed to access Plex Media Server without logging in.

Then in theory you simply add your main Roku and PC IP and they won't be able to connect.

Have a look here:

Require authentication for local network access

The normal Plex user can only share their server and not choose specific libraries.

I don't have a Plex pass and share my library with my mom and sister in order for each of us to have our own viewing environment and not share the same deck.

See my edit.

I will give the IP config a go and see how that works.

I need the "Adult" PMS to be accessible to my Roku in the lounge and my Apple TV in my room. Then the "Kids" PMS to be accessible only by the Roku's in each of their bedrooms.

I think manually adding the IP's might be an issue down the road maybe?

If creating users for the "Kids" PMS is a simple as it sounds, might go that route first.

Really whatever works will be best!

So I finally got the kids Plex Server running and was able to connect to just there shows using roku plex app.

I have now plugged in my main plex server and when I go to kids roku in their bedroom, they no longer can access there server but only the main one.

I made sure the main server wasn't connected when I logged into the roku with the 4 digit code and both kids are signed into the correct plex user account.

Is there maybe something I didn't do correctly or need to change?

Still think the easiest would be to go onto your router and set static IP's for the Roku in the lounge and Apple TV in the bedroom, then on the adult Plex server you edit the "List of networks that are allowed without auth" to 127.0.0.1, Roku IP and Apple TV IP.

In theory that should be all you need.

Will give this a try. Do I just give roku and Apple TV static ip and leave the ones in the girls room as is? Then do I just add them to the adult PMS and nothing else?

I've now got both working on the kids Roku's - there a drop down list which lets me choose which PMS I want to connect to. Not ideal but ok for now.

Will give static IP's a go quick.

That should be all you have to do yes, on the kid Roku when trying to connect to the adult PMS it should ask for a password and because the adult Roku and Apple TV IP's are set to not require a authentication it should just work normally.
