Hi

Just bought a sony 32S400 LCD. I will be getting a ps3 in the next couple weeks. I will be using the ps3 to play dvds as well.

What sound system is recommended?

I want the sound system to play dstv and on the ps3. Do I have to have an amp for this? Can I not hook up some good quality logitech speakers? I want to easily change between the ps3 and dstv.

How would this all hook up between the dstv, tv, ps3, speakers?

okay so you want to connect just the ps3 and dstv, and it seems like you don't want to fork out for an amp.

then get yourself the logitech Z5500 speakers. i've only ever heard good praises for them, and if memory serves me correctly they have input for stereo, coaxial and optical cables, so you could connect the dstv via stereo (or coax if you have the pvr) and the ps3 via optical cable. the tv will not connect to the speakers and will be used for watching only. costs about R3500-R4000.

or you could go for one of the many home theatre in a box setups that are available. i personally have a sony muteki 6.2 channel system and it cost me about R5000 back when i bought it but i see the price has increased by an odd R1k.

then there is also the sony 7.1 channel HTIB. it really depends on your budget and what exactly you're looking for. i'm also in the market myself after lightning claimed the life of the amp for my system, looking for a new amp only as the speakers are still intact ;)
 
I'd go with the sony 6.2 (got one myself). You can run the PS3 through the HDMI ports, DSTV through the SAT inputs. Then you can blu-ray hi def stuff with the PS3 (bonus) and you will still have an additional HDMI in as well as and Aditional AV in on the amp still. You also have component inputs and two optical inputs on the amp.

The setup on that is pretty simple, you AV your DSTV to the Amp, from the amp AV to the LCD. (I use the optical for my SD PVR for better audio). And the HDMI goes from PS3 to AMP to LCD. You can game in high def to!
 
ok so ive decided not to go 5.1
Ive got a really akward room. I want to go 2.1.
Is there any 2.1 speakers (logitech, creative, Altec lansing) that I can connect both the ps3 and dstv to?

Or are there cheapish receivers? with which I can connect these speakers?

Go to to HiFi Corp and check out their DVD player HTIB systems. Be cheaper and easier. Otherwise some of their standard Mini HiFi systems could also do the trick.
