I came across this free software by chance and decided to give it a shot. It's a simple install, no complicated settings required, and it can be easily uninstalled if you don't like it. What it basically does is install a Windows 7 "theme" on your XP pc (there's version for Vista also). It doesn't have all the features and visualisations of the new OS, but has the look, icons, wallpapers, cursors, system sounds, and, of course, the boot and logon screens.

I'm running it on my desktop and tablet laptop and it's really awesome. I always liked the look of Vista and 7, but had no intention of upgrading, so this is ideal. I know the trial version of 7 is available for free, but I think this is ideal for slower PC's with less ram. Give it a shot, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Why people want to make their xp look like vista or 7 is beyond just buy vista or download 7 haha. Will be an exact model and not some fake looking rubbish. You can cover dog shyte up with sauce but it's still dog shyte :p

It is time to let XP pass away at least for home users. It is almost a decade old and cannot take advantage of the newer advancements in technology.

I know XP is 'old' and 'outdated', and agree that it's time to move on to Vista. But the fact is that a lot of people are still using xp. So, what's wrong with 'pimping' up your pc with a new theme or skin?

I'm not leaving XP behind anytime soon.

The OS is awesome, especially if you install SP3!

It's fast, secure and good enough for me since I actually finally bought a legal license a year or 2 back ;)

Sounds like your describing windows 7 but anyhoo, try it and you will change your mind plus gdi if your still in IT you need to know how windows 7 works surely.

This is not intended for IT professionals or people that have Vista or Windows 7. Rather for the ordinary home user like me who'll still be using XP for at least another year or so.

XP is fine - right up until the moment you upgrade. Then you cannot go back. Unless you have <1gb ram then you run back :D

looks like crap, elements that don't function take up space on the start menu.

7TP, 7 version of VTP, and has been out at jcxp.net but I left that stuff after I actually I got to the greener pastures of the real thing.

Could you elaborate?

I use to build XP themes for a little cash years ago so I know the limitations of the XP theme engine, you will be stuck with BMPs and no transparency, the user pic icon in the startmenu is static has no function.

Trying to make XP look like Vista or 7 is not a good idea, it will look like a cheap chinese counterfeit.

Don't bother... get a theme designed to make better use of the XP theme engine from deviantart.
