Then go 'lock.

do both :) Pretty soon one will take your fancy. However, classes tend to change a lot at lvl 40, lvl 50 and lvl60. What seems nasty at lvl 20, becomes loads of fun later. It really depends on your playstyle. I think both are technically challenging when you start raiding and doing pvp at max lvl.

Some people believe a lock is just 1 or 2 pew-pew buttons, but they soon realise that with +2k spell pwr, they do crappy damage compared to a mage with the same spell pwr and wonder why. With the lock you can top damage meters, if thats your thing, but it takes some focus and you need to know what you are doing. A very enjoyable class when you master it. Utterly frustating when you dont.

I raid with my warlock atm. My shammy is lvl 18 atm. Leveling it to learn the class... who knows...my next main someday?

Are shammies and warlocks even any good at pvp these days? Last I heard they were pants.

I wouldnt know. I havent done any significant pvp for ages. I have the only active warlock in our guild atm, and we only have 2 or 3 shammies. So from a pve perspective they dont seem popular to play, but people very happy to have them in the raid.

Agreed!

I got a 14k crit on my 540 resi geared mage the other day...in a freakin BG...

You are joking right? Even with full PvE gear I dont crit that much on my shaman... Or was it in WG by any chance? Or maybe you had amplify magic up? The fact is that shaman 'could' do that right after wotlk was released, but the inevitable nerfs stopped that pretty fast. Even fully raid buffed shamans with best in slot gear hardly ever crit for that high anymore.

Add to the fact that you are a mage, with mage armor and I honestly dont understand how you could have a problem with a shaman. Resto shaman maybe, but not elemental specced ones. My main happens to be a mage, and I have alot of pvp experience on him, so believe me when I say that Shaman is nowhere near OP.

Locks and Shammies seem to be doing pretty well in 5v5 at the moment: http://www.sk-gaming.com/arena/player/5/all/all/all/all/.

I have not PvPed on my Lock since BC as I cannot stand it anymore. I think Lock representation will climb a bit more due to the buff in resil (Warlock's DoTs are not so heavily taxed in comparison to other classes' DPS).

Shammies are doing well as Resto, so if you keen on DPSing, this is not the class to play.

I am veering off topic, but I have been doing a lot of PvP on my Disc Priest (some arena and tons of BGs) and it is amazing. I have about 600 resil at the moment. Their survivability is insane, bordering on obscene.

Have you ran into an Enchancement Shaman yet?

They are insane in BG's mate ;) I saw one ripping the crap out of everyone. Dual wield with that Lava thing which is added to the off hand and BAM. That, then they have that Wind shock thing which interrupts everything. As a Pala I can't get remotely close to killing them.

I was in no way referring to enhancement spec. I was referring to someone's comment on elemental shamans.

Enhancement shamans normally use 2 weapon imbues, Windfury on main hand and flameshock to the offhand. The spell that you are referring to is lava lash, and it crits for a pitiful low amount. When you get beaten by a shaman, lava lash is a minute part of the damage you take. Windfury weapon proc, lightning bolt and earth shock is the things that will hurt you.

And no, on my mage I dont fear any shaman at all in a 1v1 situation. Resto I have issued with, but thats true for any dps against a healer. He cant kill me and I cant kill him.

I am in no way saying that shamans is gimped in PvP, but neither will I ever accept the fact when people scream OP against shamans. DPS shaman does have its niche for on demand burst, but that burst depends on flameshock being on the target. If flameshock is dispelled or resisted you have to wait for the cooldown. Then the shaman has to re-apply the dot and then still cast the spell, which CAN be interrupted. Against enhancement shaman its even easier, just avoid melee range. The only person that needs to worry about enhancement shammies is clothies, and for all the cloth classes its easy to get range again with various forms of CC.

Edit: My responses is of course based on level 80 pvp. I freely admit that in the 40-49 bracket shaman is deadly against most classes.
