shaped data

can anyone tell me what shape or unshape data is?

Shaped data is data that has been preprocessed by the ISP before getting to your computer. Internet -> Shaper -> You, if that makes sense? whereas unshaped data isn't processed, hence giving improved (less) latency; as extra time isn't spent shaping the data before your computer uses it.
in the old days shaping was used as a means of ensuring your internet experience was always as fast as your connection could handle. but these days the capitalists have twisted the meaning, and now it's just an other word for limiting or throttling the speed of things. lastly, you'll find unshaped is considerably more expensive than shaped data.

It's about prioritising various parts of the internet. You can ensure normal browsing is fast and then make torrents (P2P) so much of a non-priority that download speeds are very low.

You can also put too many people in the pool to increase the contention ratio (which is obviously cheaper). It then becomes essential to use shaping to make browsing usable. The rest goes to pot, like games and video.

Shaping can be very specific, so a single website can be prioritised if needs be.
