Doing some research into document storage is sharepoint a viable option given the company already uses SBS 2003 and I want it to be very easy for the staff as they are struggling to understand network shares

what could be easier then clicking

File
Save AS
type in the url to the Sharepoint server "\\Servername" & \\Servername\Sitename" if multiple sites.
and then you'll have a small browser whereby they can direct themselves to the folder where to save it

Yeah need to get a sharepoint server set up..

SP Server.....Good starting point :)
although you need to to a dos based backup for either the whole site or subsites.
Unless you have a backup solution that can backup sharepoint.
