I have a couple of bucks and I want to buy some shares with it, but I don't know what to buy?
I know to little about shares to chose a good stock myself, so anyone with some expertise or inside info somewhere that can give me a tip?

Get a few in SABS. The only thing you can ever count on in South Africa is everyone drinking lots, and lots of beer.

If your a bit more adventurous, go for an energy company, before they start rolling in the cash...

If you just want to keep your cash's worth, go for a monetary fund, like that one Standard Bank had on the radio a while ago, at 10% a year. Makes you sleep easier at night knowing your cash is sort of keeping its worth with inflation.

Your choice. Good luck ;)

First, I am not a financial consultant, so this is just my opinion.

I would go for a share that invests in the entire market rather than invest in one specific resource. The problem with picking just one is you stand a great chance to loose it all. If you look at the SA All share index over the past few decades you will see strong growth. Even a market crash turns into a "blip" on the chart when you look at a longer history.

Try getting a Satrix top 40 share, they invest in the top 40 shares in the SA equity market, so what the market does, they do.

That is what I plan to invest in some time soon(ish)

Personally, with the currently strong rand and with a view to post SA WC 2010 potential doldrums investing in Aussie looks pretty good. They're a fairly robust economy and have had smaller asset bubbles than the US or UK.

ASX100 (satrix style share).

Trouble is you need to go through a broker, which I personally hate, and any money you take over will contribute to your 4mil max overseas allowance

Do you get dividends when investing in Satrix 40?

No. It is not a single share in a single company, it is a weighted basket of shares that represent the makeup of the SA equity market. If the market goes up, Satrix40 goes up, if it goes down, Satrix40 goes down.
