sharing my fibre connection

hello !
neighbour asked me this weekend about getting internet connectivity at home... lots of people are asking about getting connected from home to work through the lock-down. But he only needs it for a short while, so i gave him the usual options of month-to-month LTE / rain.
But I was thinking ... i could upgrade my fibre package and allow him to connect.... he pays the difference and we both get better value for money.
**BUT**
How do I only allow him a specific amount of bandwidth... can't have him streaming Netflix at 4k while my kids have to watch Cocomelon at 144p
Is this something that can be configured on a cheapie-off-the-shelf wifi router? or do i need fancy hardware?

General advice on here is that that's a no-no for several reasons incl but not limited to - you're responsible for the stuff they watch

Having said that yes you should be able to setup limited bandwidth on most routers, even el-cheapo mikrotiks can do that though with a sharp learning curve

eish i would steer clear to be honest, if he is really in a bind he can go tomorrow and get a rain sim card

The ISP technically won't like it. It will be in the TsCs. But you can easily do it.

Legalities aside, mikrotik router (hap lite is like R600) and you can limit neighbour's port

thanks all! hehehe , ya it's like being a micro ISP (with one client) and no licence... i get it.
anyway... gonna check how quickly i can learn how to do this. not gonna bother if it's real effort.

We FNO's don't care for it much either.
